Job description

Director & Service Lead, Fire Engineering

Location: London
Salary: £110,000 to £130,000 + Bonus & Benefits
Employment: Permanent, Full Time
Working: Hybrid

Turner Property Recruitment is working with an established and growing multidisciplinary property consultancy to appoint a Director & Service Lead, Fire Engineering.

This is a rare opportunity for an established Fire Engineering leader to build and shape a new service line, with Board-level backing, access to an existing client base and the infrastructure of a successful multidisciplinary consultancy already behind you.

The Opportunity

Rather than joining an established Fire Engineering department, you will be given genuine autonomy to develop one.

Working alongside established Building Consultancy, Project Management, Cost Consultancy and Building Safety teams, you will take responsibility for the strategy, technical governance, commercial performance, recruitment and growth of the Fire Engineering service.

The ambition is to create a significant, commercially sustainable Fire Engineering offering, supporting both existing clients and new relationships across London and the wider UK.

The Role

Your remit will include:

  • Establishing and delivering the Fire Engineering business plan and growth strategy
  • Recruiting, leading and developing a specialist Fire Engineering team
  • Developing existing client relationships and generating new opportunities
  • Establishing technical standards, QA processes and governance
  • Leading complex and higher-risk commissions
  • Fire strategies across RIBA Stages 1 to 6
  • Higher-Risk Buildings and Building Safety Regulator submissions
  • Building Regulations Part B advice
  • Gateway One and London Plan Policy D12 fire statements
  • FRAEW and PAS 9980 assessments
  • External wall and remediation advice
  • Fire risk, compartmentation and fire-door assessments
  • Technical due diligence, peer review and expert advice
  • Working closely with the wider consultancy to cross-sell Fire Engineering services

As the department grows, you will progressively build a team capable of delivering day-to-day commissions, allowing your role to develop further around leadership, key clients, business development and strategic growth.

About You

We are interested in speaking with established Fire Engineering leaders as well as ambitious senior professionals ready to take ownership of a service.

You should be:

  • A Chartered Fire Engineer with the Institution of Fire Engineers
  • An experienced Fire Engineer with a strong technical background
  • Experienced in leading and developing people
  • Commercially aware with experience winning and retaining clients
  • Comfortable developing fee proposals, pipelines and business plans
  • Experienced across complex Fire Engineering commissions
  • Knowledgeable around the Building Safety Act, Building Regulations and Higher-Risk Buildings
  • Someone who enjoys building relationships and wants the autonomy to develop a service rather than simply inherit one
Package

£110,000 to £130,000, depending on experience and track record, plus:

  • Competitive company bonus
  • Professional memberships
  • Training and professional development
  • Group health insurance for eligible professional staff
  • Volunteering days
  • Season ticket loan
  • Hybrid working, with up to two days working from home following probation and subject to business requirements

This is an opportunity to build your own Fire Engineering operation within an established consultancy, with the clients, infrastructure and financial backing already in place.
