Role Title: Technical Delivery Manager – Group Functions
Department: Data / Group Functions
About the Hiscox Data Team

The Hiscox Data Team is transforming data maturity across the organisation to accelerate business growth and efficiency using Data, Analytics, and AI. We aim to empower colleagues by improving data fluency and promote a data-driven, insight-led culture that supports informed, customer‑centric decisions. Commercial focus, continuous improvement and product‑centric delivery is at the heart of everything we do. This role operates within the One Hiscox Data team model, working collaboratively with Data Engineering, Data Product, Data Management, Data Visualisation and Data Science teams to ensure alignment with Group Data Strategy, governance frameworks and cross‑team delivery processes.

The Role

The Technical Delivery Manager is a senior delivery role responsible for translating business priorities into a clear, deliverable backlog and coordinating technology delivery from discovery through release and live service. The role connects stakeholders with multidisciplinary delivery teams, ensuring work is prioritised by value and risk and that delivery remains transparent, controlled and outcome‑focused.

Working with the Data Product Manager, the role supports the product roadmap while taking day‑to‑day ownership of backlog quality, delivery planning, dependencies, risks and release readiness. It will make informed scope and priority decisions, facilitate Agile delivery, challenge constructively and balance near‑term outcomes with technical sustainability, operational readiness and the long‑term health of Group data and reporting products.

Key Responsibilities
  • Support the product vision and roadmap while owning a prioritised, delivery‑ready backlog that balances measurable value, user need, risk, urgency, technical dependencies, capacity and product sustainability.
  • Turn business problems into well‑defined epics and user stories with clear context, acceptance criteria, dependencies and outcomes, maintaining traceability from request through delivery, acceptance and realised value.
  • Lead end‑to‑end delivery planning and coordination across multidisciplinary teams, managing milestones, capacity, dependencies, risks, issues, blockers and scope changes while providing clear progress and decision information.
  • Coordinate proportionate technical discovery, design assurance, testing and release readiness, ensuring architecture, security, data governance, non‑functional requirements, operational controls and residual risks are addressed.
  • Act as the primary connection between business priority and technical execution, facilitating decisions, managing delivery partners, supporting transition into BAU and promoting accountable, collaborative and continuously improving ways of working.
Skills & Experience Required
Product and Delivery Skills
  • Proven experience a Delivery Manager or in a comparable role supporting Product development, with strong backlog management, user‑story and acceptance‑criteria capability.
  • Strong understanding of Agile delivery, estimation, planning, dependency and risk management, testing, release readiness and transition into live service.
  • Working understanding of architecture, integrations, environments, security, data governance and non‑functional requirements, with the technical credibility to identify constraints and explain delivery trade‑offs.
Professional Skills
  • Strong judgement and outcome focus, able to make clear scope, priority and sequencing decisions while balancing business value, delivery constraints and long‑term product health.
  • Excellent communication, facilitation and stakeholder‑management skills across business, technical and senior audiences, including constructive challenge and management of competing priorities.
  • Organised, accountable and improvement‑oriented, with the confidence to lead complex delivery through ambiguity, remove blockers and maintain momentum without compromising quality.
Experience Level
  • Demonstrable experience leading delivery in a complex organisation, including accountability for backlog, planning and end‑to‑end coordination from discovery through release and support.
  • A track record of influencing across organisational boundaries, resolving complex dependencies and balancing value, risk, technical sustainability and operational readiness.
Desirable:
  • Product experience, Scrum, Agile delivery, project delivery or similar accreditation.
  • Experience with Jira, Confluence or similar documentation and collaboration tools.
  • Knowledge of data platforms, reporting and analytics products, governance, data quality, supplier management or BAU product operations.
About Hiscox

As an international specialist insurer, we are far removed from the world of mass market insurance products. Instead, we are selective and focus on our key areas of expertise and strength - all of which is underpinned by a culture that encourages us to challenge convention and always look for a better way of doing things.

We ensure the unique and the interesting. And we search for the same when it comes to talented people. Hiscox is full of smart, reliable human beings that look out for customers and each other. We believe in doing the right thing, making good and rebuilding when things go wrong.

Everyone is encouraged to think creatively, challenge the status‑quo and look for solutions.

Scratch beneath the surface and you will find a business that is solid, but slightly contrary. We like to do things differently and constantly seek to evolve. We might have been around for a long time (our roots go back to 1901), but we are young in many ways, ambitious and going places.

Some people might say insurance is dull, but life at Hiscox is anything but. If that sounds good to you, get in touch.

Diversity and flexible working at Hiscox

At Hiscox we care about our people. We hire the best people for the job, and we are committed to diversity and creating a truly inclusive culture, which we believe drives success.

Working life does not always have to be in the office so we have introduced hybrid working to encourage a healthy work life balance.

This hybrid working model is set by the team rather than the business to enable you to manage your own personal work‑life balance. We see it as the best of both worlds; structure and sociability on one hand, and independence and flexibility on the other.
