Job summary

Ocho People is seeking a senior Technical Data Architect to shape enterprise data architecture across AWS, GCP, and hybrid cloud environments in Belfast. You will design scalable, secure data models and governance frameworks, reporting to the Director of Data Engineering, collaborating with engineering, analytics, and business teams.

Qualifications

  • Strong data modelling and multi-domain data modelling experience.
  • Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases (PostgreSQL, MySQL, DynamoDB, Bigtable).
  • Hands-on ETL/ELT development and data transformation optimization.
  • Proficiency with AWS data services (Kinesis, S3, Redshift) and GCP (Pub/Sub, BigQuery).
  • Experience with streaming and real-time processing (Kafka, Spark, Flink).
  • Knowledge of data governance and data quality practices.
  • Experience across multi-cloud/hybrid environments and cost optimisation.

  • Define and maintain conceptual, logical, and physical data models.
  • Design and optimise data platforms across AWS, GCP and hybrid cloud.

The Role

This is a senior, highly visible role designing scalable, secure and future proof data architectures that support advanced analytics, business intelligence and enterprise wide data needs. Reporting to the Director of Data Engineering, you will define data models, integration patterns and governance frameworks across cloud and hybrid environments, working closely with engineering, analytics and business teams to translate strategic objectives into robust technical solutions. You will join a dynamic, resourceful team supporting both banking and retail clients as they navigate complex transformation programmes.

Key Responsibilities
  • Develop enterprise wide data architecture strategies aligned with business and technical objectives
  • Define and maintain conceptual, logical and physical data models across multiple domains
  • Design, build and optimise data platforms leveraging AWS, GCP and hybrid cloud environments
  • Implement real time and batch processing pipelines using modern data engineering frameworks
  • Define and enforce data governance standards, including metadata management, data lineage and data quality
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory frameworks such as GDPR and HIPAA
  • Implement encryption, key management and security best practice across all data platforms
  • Partner with engineering, analytics and business stakeholders to translate requirements into technical solutions
  • Provide architectural guidance, technical leadership and mentorship to data engineering teams
  • Evaluate new technologies and recommend solutions that improve performance, scalability and cost efficiency
What You'll Need

Essential:

  • Strong expertise in data modelling, database design and architecting conceptual, logical and physical models
  • Proven experience with SQL and NoSQL databases such as PostgreSQL, MySQL, DynamoDB and Bigtable
  • Hands on experience building ETL/ELT pipelines and optimising data transformations
  • Practical knowledge of AWS services such as Kinesis, S3 and Redshift, and GCP services such as Pub/Sub and BigQuery
  • Experience with streaming technologies such as Kafka and real time processing engines such as Spark or Flink
  • Strong understanding of performance optimisation, including indexing, partitioning, caching and query tuning
  • Experience working across multi cloud and hybrid cloud environments, including cost optimisation

Desirable / Nice to Have:

  • Relevant certifications such as AWS Certified Data Analytics or Google Professional Data Engineer
  • Knowledge of data governance tools such as Collibra or Apache Atlas
  • Familiarity with encryption standards and key management, such as AES256, TLS, KMS or Vault
