Job summary

British Airways, the nation’s flag carrier, is seeking a Technical Accounting Analyst in London. The role sits within Finance and Transformation, guiding IFRS reporting, leases, treasury, and complex accounting decisions.

You will partner with teams, support audits, and drive impairment and going concern reporting. Qualified accountants with IFRS expertise, strong modelling skills, and stakeholder engagement experience are encouraged to apply.

Qualifications

  • Strong IFRS knowledge and ability to explain complex concepts clearly.
  • Experience in a complex business, technical accounting role, or Big 4 environment.
  • Experience with financial modelling and accounting judgements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide clear, practical technical accounting guidance across BA, aligned to IFRS and IAG policy.
  • Partner with Finance teams to support contract changes and ensure accurate accounting treatment.
  • Contribute to projects that need specialist accounting input.
  • Support audits and work with external auditors on technical topics.
  • Deliver key reporting activities including impairment reviews and going concern assessments.
  • Take ownership of lease accounting, including systems and disclosures.
  • Review treasury accounting and hedge compliance.

The role: Technical Accounting Analyst

Finance at British Airways keeps everything grounded—ensuring we operate safely, compliantly, and with confidence. This role sits in our Finance and Transformation team, where technical accounting expertise helps guide key decisions across the airline. From leases and treasury to complex IFRS interpretation, this team plays a vital part in how we report, plan, and move forward. What you’ll do:
  • Provide clear, practical technical accounting guidance across BA, aligned to IFRS and IAG policy
  • Partner with Finance teams to support contract changes and ensure accurate accounting treatment
  • Contribute to projects that need specialist accounting input
  • Support audits and work with external auditors on technical topics
  • Deliver key reporting activities including impairment reviews and going concern assessments
  • Take ownership of lease accounting, including systems and disclosures
  • Manage provisions (EU261, maintenance, end-of-lease), ensuring forecasts are robust
  • Review treasury accounting and hedge compliance
  • Help bring new technology and smarter ways of working into the team
What you’ll bring to British Airways:

Your experience:
  • Qualified accountant (ACA, ACCA)
  • Experience in a complex business, technical accounting role, or Big 4 environment
  • Strong IFRS knowledge, particularly IAS 23, IAS 37, IAS 39, IFRS 7, 9 and 16
  • Experience with financial modelling and accounting judgements
  • Confident working with stakeholders and auditors
