Job summary

Yorkshire Water in Leeds is seeking a Tech Lead & Team Leader to drive the technical design and delivery of software solutions within the Delivery of Software Solutions team. This role is permanent, 37 hours per week, with hybrid working (1-2 days in the office).

You will lead engineering teams, mentor developers, ensure quality, and shape technical roadmaps while collaborating with product managers and architects to meet customer needs.

• Significant software engineering experience with technical leadership.
• Experience designing secure, scalable cloud solutions.
• Degree in CS/SE/IT or equivalent practical experience.

Where you fit in:

As our Tech Lead & Team Leader you will:

• Lead the technical design and delivery of software solutions that align with business and technology strategies.
• Provide technical leadership and direction to engineering teams, ensuring adherence to best practices, standards, and architectural principles.
• Own end-to-end solution quality, including performance, security, scalability, maintainability, and reliability.
• Collaborate with Product Managers, Architects, Business Analysts, and other stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical solutions.
• Drive engineering excellence through code reviews, design reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
• Mentor and coach software engineers, supporting their technical growth and career development.
• Establish and promote software development standards, tooling, and modern engineering practices.
• Ensure compliant, high-quality delivery on time and within budget, resolving complex risks and issues.
• Shape technical strategy, roadmaps, and investment priorities using emerging technology and operational insights.
• Drive adoption of DevOps, automation, CI/CD, and cloud-native engineering practices.
• Ensure engineering teams deliver high-quality software within agreed timelines and budgets.

What skills & qualifications you will need:

• Significant software engineering experience, including technical leadership and delivery of complex solutions in Agile environments.
• Strong knowledge of software architecture, design principles, engineering standards, testing, quality assurance, and release management.
• Experience designing secure, scalable, resilient cloud solutions using Azure, AWS, or Google Cloud.
• Strong understanding of APIs, microservices, integration patterns, event-driven architecture, DevOps, CI/CD, infrastructure as code, and automation.
• Proven ability to lead and mentor cross-functional teams, influence technical decisions, and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
• Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, balancing business priorities, delivery commitments, technical risk, dependencies, and technical debt.
• Understanding of security, data protection, and regulatory compliance requirements.
• Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, IT or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
• Relevant Azure, AWS, TOGAF, Agile, SAFe, or ITIL certification is desirable.
