Job summary

Sphere is partnering with an established SaaS business to hire a Tech Lead for its product engineering team in London. The role combines hands-on software development with architectural direction, mentoring, and cross-functional collaboration with Product and Data teams to shape features and scale the platform.

You will own architecture, drive performance and security, promote best engineering practices, and help grow the engineering organisation as the platform modernises.

Qualifications

• Strong commercial experience with Java and Spring
• Experience as a Senior Software Engineer, Lead Engineer or Technical Lead
• Experience within a SaaS, MarTech or data-driven product environment
• Previous experience mentoring and developing engineers
• Frontend experience with React and TypeScript would be beneficial
• Experience working in cloud-native environments using AWS or GCP
• Experience with Docker, Kubernetes and CI/CD
• Strong understanding of software design principles and testing practices
• Comfortable working cross-functionally with Product, Data and Engineering teams

Responsibilities

• Lead the technical direction of a cross-functional engineering squad
• Remain hands-on, building scalable, high-quality software
• Mentor and support engineers through technical reviews, 1:1s and development plans
• Work closely with Product and Data teams to shape new features and solutions
• Take ownership of architecture, performance, scalability, reliability and security
• Contribute to the ongoing modernisation of the platform
• Help improve engineering practices, deployment frequency and overall delivery
• Support technical hiring as the engineering team continues to grow
