Job summary

Leeds Teaching Hospital NHS Trust in Leeds General Infirmary is recruiting a Medical Secretary within Trauma & Orthopaedics. You will provide efficient secretarial support to the service, enabling patients to move through their pathway in line with national waiting time standards.

The post holder will work independently and as part of a team, exercising judgement to prioritise and co-ordinate workload, support Consultants and medical teams, and contribute to improving the patient experience

Qualifications

  • Enthusiastic and highly motivated Medical Secretary providing efficient secretarial support to the Trauma & Orthopaedic service.
  • A key role in supporting patients through the 18-week pathway or national waiting time standards.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team, prioritising and coordinating workload.

Responsibilities

  • Turn around clinical correspondence promptly to keep patients moving through their pathway.
  • Work with Consultants and medical teams.
  • Manage workload in line with departmental requirements or as identified by Senior Medical Secretary.
  • Handle patient enquiries.
  • Ensure next steps are in the pipeline to keep pathways moving.

Job Summary

We are looking to recruit for a Medical Secretary post within Trauma & Orthopaedics at the Leeds General Infirmary.

We require an enthusiastic and highly motivated Medical Secretary, who can provide efficient secretarial support to the Trauma & Orthopaedic service, in delivering high quality care to the patients of Leeds and beyond. This role will additionally make a key contribution in improving the patient experience by supporting Directorate teams with the movement of patients through their 18-week pathway or other national waiting time standards as appropriate.

You will be expected to work independently and as part of a team, exercising judgement and taking initiative to prioritise and co-ordinate your own workload.

This role is very busy and demanding, with competing demands and deadlines to meet. We require an individual who is able to work on their own initiative and also as part of a wider team, who is willing to work flexibly across teams as and when needed.

The Post-holder Will
  • Work as part of a team to ensure that all clinical correspondence is turned around in a timely manner to allow patients to move through their pathway without any delays
  • Work with Consultants and their medical teams.
  • Manage their workload in line with departmental requirements or as identified by the Senior Medical Secretary.
  • Deal with patient enquiries.
  • Play a key role in ensuring that patients move systematically through their pathways by ensuring that the next steps are in the pipeline.
