Job summary

Canterbury City Council is seeking a Team Leader (Small Projects) in Canterbury, Kent to lead the Small Projects team and deliver housing capital programmes, void properties and key investment projects across the Council's estate.

The role combines office, site and home-based working with a flexible pattern, a starting salary around £48,963.69, and opportunities for professional registration support, training and career development.

Qualifications

• Member of a relevant professional body (CIBSE, RICS, CIOB, CABE or CIH).
• Degree in Construction or housing (Building Surveying or Building Service Engineering).
• IOSH Managing Safely qualification or equivalent.
• Level 4 housing qualification or willingness to undertake one.
• Full driving licence and access to a vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Lead the Small Projects team delivering projects safely, on time, on budget and to agreed quality standards.
• Manage the Council's voids programme, improving turnaround times and meeting void standards before re-letting.
• Oversee housing capital investment programmes including kitchens, bathrooms, windows and doors.
• Deliver key compliance programmes including fire safety, asbestos and void property works.
• Provide technical input in specification development, procurement and contract management.
• Shape long-term asset investment strategies with professional input into future programmes.
• Ensure value for money through procurement, project delivery and contractor management.
• Collaborate with other Team Leaders to ensure resilience and cross-team working.

A fantastic Team Leader (Small Projects) job opportunity in Canterbury, Kent.

Canterbury City Council is a progressive local authority with an extremely varied stock of both housing properties and commercial building portfolios.

This is an exciting opportunity to join Canterbury City Council's Facilities Management team as Team Leader (Small Projects), taking responsibility for the delivery of housing capital programmes, void properties and key planned investment projects across the Council's estate.

About this Team Leader (Small Projects) opportunity in Canterbury

This role combines office, home and site-based working and offers a flexible way of working.

• You will lead the Small Projects team, ensuring projects are delivered safely, on time, on budget and to agreed quality standards
• You will manage the Council's voids programme, driving improvements in turnaround times and ensuring properties meet the required void standard before re-letting
• You will oversee the operational delivery of housing capital investment programmes including kitchens, bathrooms, windows and doors
• You will take responsibility for delivering key compliance-related programmes including fire safety, asbestos and void property works
• Working with Contracts Officers and delivery partners, you will provide technical expertise in specification development, procurement activities and contract management
• You will help shape long-term asset investment strategies, providing professional and technical input into future programmes of work
• You will ensure value for money is achieved through effective procurement, project delivery and contractor management
• Working closely with other Team Leaders, you will help ensure resilience and collaboration across the wider Facilities Management service

Working pattern of our Team Leader (Small Projects)

• Monday - Friday, excluding bank holidays
• 37 hours per week
• Permanent full-time contract
• A full week off over Christmas! Plus 23 days of annual leave to use throughout the rest of the year, increasing to 28 days after 5 years of service

About you, the Team Leader (Small Projects) for Canterbury City Council

Your Qualifications

• You should be a member of a relevant professional body (including CIBSE, RICS, CIOB, CABE or CIH)
• You will have successfully completed a suitable Degree, in a subject that covers Construction or housing i.e Building Surveying or Building Service Engineering
• IOSH Managing Safely qualification or equivalent
• A level 4 housing qualification or be willing to undertake one
• A full driving licence and access to a vehicle is required for this job opportunity

You will have a strong knowledge of:

• Planned maintenance and capital investment programmes
• Social housing and local authority asset management
• Statutory and regulatory landlord responsibilities
• Construction methods, building services and maintenance operations
• Procurement, contract management and performance monitoring

You will have experience of:

• Delivering repairs and maintenance services within social housing or a similar environment
• Managing investment programmes and small projects
• Leading and motivating high-performing teams
• Producing reports and presenting information to a variety of stakeholders
• Driving continuous improvement and delivering value for money
