Job summary

St Mary’s Care Group in Hull is seeking a compassionate Night Team Leader to join our overnight team at St Mary’s Chanterlands. You will lead the night care team and ensure safe, dignified, person-centred care for residents.

You will monitor residents with dementia or confusion, support daily living, coordinate with GPs and district nurses, complete care plans and records, and mentor junior staff while maintaining a calm night-time environment.

Qualifications

• Leadership and care knowledge required.
• Strong communication and leadership skills.
• Experience in care home leadership or Senior Care Assistant role.
• NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care (or willingness to work towards).
• Flexibility to work nights, including occasional weekends and evenings.

Responsibilities

• Lead the night care team to deliver high standards of care.
• Assist residents with daily living, maintaining dignity and wellbeing.
• Support residents with physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs.
• Monitor residents with confusion or dementia and respond to needs.
• Promote independence and encourage residents to maintain abilities.
• Support mobility and continence care; assist with personal care.
• Provide end-of-life care and support families.
• Complete and review care plans, risk assessments and records.
• Respond to nurse calls, calls and visitors; liaise with GPs and district nurses.
• Mentor and train new and junior team members.
• Maintain a safe, calm and welcoming night-time environment.

The Role

As a Team Leader, you will support the smooth running of the home overnight, ensuring residents receive safe, compassionate, and person-centred care.

Your responsibilities will include:

• Leading and supporting the night care team to deliver the highest standards of care.
• Assisting residents with all aspects of daily living when required, ensuring dignity, comfort, and wellbeing are always maintained.
• Supporting residents with physical, emotional, social, and spiritual needs.
• Monitoring and supporting residents who may experience confusion, dementia, or behavioural challenges.
• Promoting independence and encouraging residents to maintain their individual abilities wherever possible.
• Supporting residents with mobility needs and ensuring appropriate use of equipment and aids.
• Assisting with continence care and personal care where required.
• Providing compassionate end-of-life care and supporting residents and families during difficult times.
• Completing and reviewing care plans, risk assessments, and daily records in line with company policies and regulatory requirements.
• Responding promptly to nurse call systems, telephone enquiries, and visitors.
• Liaising with healthcare professionals, including GPs, district nurses, and external support services.
• Mentoring, training, and supporting new and junior team members.
• Ensuring a safe, calm, and welcoming environment throughout the night.

About You

We're looking for someone who combines excellent care knowledge with strong leadership skills.

You’ll ideally have:

• Previous experience in a Senior Care Assistant or Team Leader role within a care home setting.
• A genuine passion for supporting older people and enhancing quality of life.
• Strong communication and leadership skills.
• The ability to motivate, guide, and support colleagues.
• A caring, approachable, and professional manner.
• Good organisational skills and attention to detail.
• Experience with care planning and record keeping.
• NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care (or willingness to work towards achieving this qualification).
• Flexibility to work nights, including occasional weekends and evenings as required.
