Job summary

Portman Recruitment Limited is recruiting a Team Leader for a specialist short-breaks service in West Bromwich. The home supports children aged 5–18 with learning disabilities, autism and other needs, with up to three children staying at any one time.

Pay is £14.50–£15 per hour, plus a Medicash plan. Working alongside the Deputy and Registered Manager, you'll lead Residential Support Workers, provide supervision, and help deliver high-quality, child-centred care.

Qualifications

• Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare or equivalent.
• Enhanced DBS check suitable for working with children.
• Strong safeguarding knowledge.
• Ability to lead and motivate a team while maintaining professional boundaries.
• Clear communication and a calm, respectful approach.
• Flexibility to work shifts, weekends and sleep-ins where required.

Responsibilities

• Lead, motivate and guide Residential Support Workers.
• Provide supervision and support staff development.
• Assist with recruitment, induction and training.

• Work directly with children in daily routines, education, activities and life-skill development.
• Build trusting relationships and celebrate each child's achievements.

• Maintain accurate records and contribute to care planning and reviews.
• Work positively with families, social workers and other professionals.

Team Leader – Children's Residential Home (Learning Disabilities)
Location: West Bromwich

Our client is recruiting a Team Leader for a specialist short-breaks service in Telford. The home supports children aged 5–18 with learning disabilities, autism, global developmental delay and other additional needs. Up to three children stay at the home at any one time.

Children are involved in planning and decisions about their care, with their individual needs and perspectives at the heart of the service. Staff build positive, nurturing relationships and support children's emotional, mental and physical wellbeing. The home provides a safe, stimulating environment with space for children to relax, enjoy activities and have privacy.

The role

Working alongside the Deputy and Registered Manager, you'll lead and support Residential Support Workers while helping deliver high-quality, child-centred care. You'll provide consistency, encouragement and positive role modelling for both children and colleagues.

Your responsibilities will include:

Desirable:

• Level 5 leadership or management qualification in residential childcare.
• Experience supervising or mentoring staff.
• Experience in regulated residential care or supporting children with complex needs or challenging behaviours.
• Full UK driving licence.
