Job summary

Canford School is seeking a Team Leader to stay operationally focused on core commitments and support external tasks as required. You will lead the Front of House teams, ensuring high standards and clear communication across shifts, liaising with line management and kitchen staff to meet daily requirements.

The role requires a proactive hands-on approach, strong communication, and the ability to supervise timekeeping, uphold health and safety, and manage staff to deliver exceptional service.

Qualifications

  • Good numeracy and literacy skills demonstrated in daily tasks.
  • Basic Food Hygiene knowledge and certification required.
  • NVQ in hospitality or equivalent is preferred.
  • Previous experience in a similar environment is advantageous.
  • Strong communication and organisational skills are essential.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Front of House team to uphold exemplary standards.
  • Liaise with line management on hospitality and menu requirements.
  • Brief shifts and ensure adequate staffing coverage.
  • Direct the team and address productivity or dispute issues.
  • Ensure accurate timekeeping and adherence to procedures.
  • Maintain cleanliness and supervise Assistant team duties.
  • Assist with daily due diligence paperwork and reporting issues.
  • Be flexible for on-site shifts outside normal hours.
  • Support training and carry out lock-up procedures as required.

Job description

The Team Leaders primary role is to remain operationally focussed for all ‘core’ and internal commitments. They will also support with any external commitments where required.

Team Leaders must lead their teams to ensure high standards are upheld and maintained throughout service. This will require effective and clear communication, monitoring and a proactive hands-on approach.

In the absence of a Manager, the Team Leaders must liaise with the chefs and take responsibility for the daily requirements of the Department.

Duties
  • To be operationally focussed ensuring all aspects of Front of House commitments and standards are overseen and delivered to exemplary standard
  • Liaise with their line management regarding all hospitality and menu requirements. Ensure shift/teams are briefed
  • Liaise with team members to ensure the daily tasks are assigned, ensuring staffing is sufficient to cover all shift commitments
  • Positive and enthusiastic approach in leading the team, driving a positive and "can do" attitude in the department.
  • Ability to work closely with all colleagues to achieve the highest aims of the department. Taking corrective action to resolve disputes, productivity issues and maintaining standards.
  • Professional approach to appearance and engagement into the school and department’s ethos and policies.
  • To supervise timekeeping with all team members, to ensure accurate timekeeping of shifts are monitoredand recorded correctly.
  • To be aware and competent on relevant IT and systems.
  • Attend any required meetings
  • To carry out daily hazard spotting. Ensure team members are operating to Departmental Food Safety and Health & Safety procedures.
  • Maintain cleanliness of all catering areas and supervising the General Assistant team duties., liaising closely with the chefs on kitchen needs.
  • Assist with the preparation of all due diligence paperwork and submit as requested, outlining any concerns to your Line Management
  • Report any items of machinery malfunctioning or operating inconsistently immediately to your Line Management
  • Assist in supporting any training required for team members
  • Carry out lock up procedure in the evenings and weekends
  • Be flexible in the working environment as some shifts may require you to work outside of the described hours and on site through the school.
  • Be flexible in carrying out any other reasonable jobs assigned by the management team
Knowledge/Experience
  • Good numeracy and literacy skills (D)
