Ganymede Solutions is seeking an experienced Team Leader in heavy engineering to plan, coordinate, and lead a skilled engineering team. You will work hands-on with the team on freight wagons while also managing day-to-day operations, safety, and performance reporting.
The role combines technical oversight with people leadership, offering opportunities to influence continuous improvement and staff development within a rail/ freight engineering context in the UK.
If you are an experienced heavy engineering professional ready to take the next step into a team leadership role, this is an opportunity to combine your technical expertise with responsibility for planning, organising and leading a skilled engineering team. As Team Leader, you will be a hands-on leader, spending part of your time working alongside the team and using your mechanical expertise, while also taking ownership of the day-to-day coordination and delivery of the department. You will be responsible for ensuring the team is organised, productive and working safely, while meeting operational, quality and performance targets. You will act as a key point of contact between the engineering team, senior management and wider stakeholders, providing clear updates, debriefs and feedback on performance, progress and any issues that need addressing. Your responsibilities will include:
You will ideally have a strong mechanical engineering background, with experience in heavy plant, rolling stock, agricultural machinery, heavy vehicles, bus or another comparable heavy engineering environment.
Just as importantly, you will have the confidence and communication skills to lead people, organise workloads and take ownership of departmental performance. Previous experience of team coordination, coaching, supervision, shift leadership or planning would be highly advantageous.
This is an ideal opportunity for an experienced engineer who is ready to move into a leadership position without losing the hands‑on element of the role.
Ganymede is working in partnership with one of the UK's most respected companies within the Transport Sector, who are expanding their operation due to year‑on‑year growth. You'll join a highly skilled engineering team where safety, quality and continuous improvement are at the heart of everything they do.
