Job summary

Caterpillar Inc. in Peterborough is seeking a Team Lead to coach a production team and drive safety, quality and continuous improvement on the shop floor.

You will provide day-to-day direction, coaching and support, ensuring processes are followed and high standards are maintained. This fixed-term role includes shift work, with a focus on developing people and achieving operational goals.

Qualifications

  • Ability to lead and support teams to achieve operational goals.

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent time management and ability to facilitate meetings.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a dedicated team of operators to carry out day-to-day activities.
  • Ensure safety requirements and standards are met by the team.
  • Meet production targets and escalate issues as needed.
  • Promote and maintain high workplace standards.
  • Develop action plans to identify root causes and eliminate issues in production.
  • Strive for zero defects and support quality investigations.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional groups to drive continuous improvement.

Caterpillar’s Industrial Power Systems Division (IPSD) designs, tests and manufactures 0.5 to 18L Cat® and Perkins engines that power over 5000 applications including Marine, Petroleum, Industrial Applications, Electric Generators, and Locomotives. High level tasks will include but are not limited to:
  • Leading a dedicated team of operators to ensure they can conduct day to day activities
  • Engage the team to always meet safety requirements and standards
  • Meet production targets and feedback/escalate any issues as they arise
  • Promote and maintain high workplace standards
  • Build action plans to identify, root cause and eliminate issues within production
  • Aim for Zero defects within your team, but help to support the investigation into any quality issues that arise
  • Network amongst support groups to help drive continuous improvement
What You’ll Bring
Successful candidates will be able to demonstrate the following skills and experience gained through previous roles:
  • Proven ability to lead and support teams in achieving operational goals.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and able to work effectively using their own initiative.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organisational and time management skills, with experience facilitating or chairing meetings.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft 365 applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
The strongest candidates will also have:
  • Understanding of Perkins’ standard operating procedures and working practices.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes.
  • Confidence in presenting information and communicating effectively with larger audiences, including delivering team briefings and team communications.
  • Just-In-Time (JIT) training or certification.

  • This fixed term contract role is based at the Peterborough facility and will require shift work in line with business requirements.
