Job summary

Shenley Brook End School in Milton Keynes is seeking a Teaching Assistant specialising in literacy to join our Support for Learning Team. You will work with individuals, pairs and small groups to raise literacy attainment and confidence.

The role is permanent, 37 hours per week, term-time with training days, and includes after-school literacy sessions. Applicants should have experience with young people and a passion for helping students develop essential reading and writing skills.

Qualifications

  • Experience supporting students with literacy needs.
  • Ability to assess needs and plan interventions.
  • Good communication with staff, parents and external agencies.
  • Able to deliver after-school literacy sessions.

Teaching Assistant Specialising in Literacy
Permanent
Salary: Grade 5 £28,608 - £32,046 p.a pro rata, £24,826 - £27,808 p.a actual
37 hrs per week, Term Time, plus training days (39 weeks per year)
Monday - Thursday 8.15am - 4.15pm, Friday 8.15am-3.45pm

We are looking for a committed and enthusiastic person to join our Support for Learning Team, to work with individuals, pairs and small groups of students with SEND to help them significantly improve their literacy skills.

We welcome applications from educational professionals with a love of literacy and for helping young people develop those skills they need to use across their school subjects and in future life.

In return you will be offered the support and training to enable you to reach your maximum potential.

You will work with students who have a range of difficulties in learning literacy skills.

In the role you will be required :-
  • to assess students’ needs and plan for active interventions
  • to deliver and evaluate student progress data in literacy and identify further support required
  • to liaise with subject teachers, parents and external agencies
  • Deliver after school literacy intervention sessions
Our ideal candidate will:-
  • have previous experience working with young people
  • be able to establish meaningful positive relationships quickly
  • have good communication and interpersonal skills
  • be able to work independently
  • have strong subject knowledge and a breadth of ideas to develop literacy skills and understanding for the students at school
