Job description

Teaching Assistant – SEN/SEMH (Permanent, 30 Hours per Week)

We are currently working with a trauma-informed independent school and alternative provision in Northumberland that is looking to appoint experienced, proactive, and compassionate Teaching Assistants to join their team on a permanent basis from September. This setting offers a bespoke education and therapeutic environment to students with complex needs including SEMH and SEN.

Working Hours & Flexibility:
  • This is a 30-hour per week permanent position
  • Core hours on-site are typically 9:00am to 3:00pm, with occasional additional meetings or training
The Ideal Candidate Will:
  • Have at least 3 years’ experience working with children or young people with SEN or SEMH needs (including lived experience)
  • Be confident managing challenging behaviours and understand trauma-informed approaches
  • Be comfortable engaging in behaviour interventions, including the use of positive handling if necessary (training provided)
  • Build strong, positive relationships with students based on trust and consistency
  • Communicate effectively with pupils, staff, and families
  • Prioritise safeguarding and professional boundaries at all times
  • Be committed to supporting learners both academically and emotionally
