Axcis Education Recruitment is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant for a special school in Birmingham focusing on profoundly autistic learners. The role involves providing support on a one-to-one basis and in small groups, addressing various emotional and communication needs. Suitable candidates will have relevant experience and be ready to join a supportive team in an ongoing capacity.
Axcis are working with an ASD-specific special school in the Balsall Heath area which has a support staff vacancy for a teaching assistant with experience of working with profoundly autistic learners including more specific needs such as being non/pre-verbal, sensory and emotional dysregulation and personal care needs. This is a small school comprising of 40 children within the early years and primary age-brackets; high levels of teamwork and communication amongst colleagues is key when it comes to providing the best support for children with profound needs. Type of SEND support experience required: - Profound Autism - Sensory Dysregulation - Distressing/challenging behaviour towards themselves and adults - Sensory challenges - Personal care needs - Visual communication (PECS, Makaton) This is a full-time role on an ongoing basis, the school is looking for the successful candidate to start as soon as possible and to return in September 2025. This is a great opportunity for a teaching assistant looking to work in a school with a highly-skilled, enthusiastic and committed team. Job Details • Whole class support but working on a 1:1 or small group basis • Working closely with profoundly autistic learners with more specific needs such as non/pre-verbal communication, sensory and emotional dysregulation, personal care and distressing/challenging behaviour • Working independently and as part of a team • Full time hours (8:30am – 3:30pm, Monday to Friday) • Ongoing basis for the remainder of 2024/25 academic year and to return in September 2025 • Start date - ASAP Requirements: • Experience in working on a one to one and/or small group basis – Essential • Experience of working with pupils who are profoundly autistic– Essential • Experience of supporting needs such as non/pre-verbal communication, sensory and emotional dysregulation and personal care – Essential • Enhanced DBS on the Update Service required or we’re happy to carry out a new one ahead of you starting the position – Essential • Minimum of 2 good references – Essential INDMID
