Job summary

The Bedford College Group is seeking a Teaching Assistant (Level 2) to support Maths and English in the English and Maths department. The role is based in the UK with a permanent, part-time contract and includes duties in classroom support, learner engagement and assessment assistance.

As a TA Level 2, you will assist GCSE and Functional Skills delivery, support learners with additional needs, and contribute to a positive, inclusive learning environment while following safeguarding and DBS

Qualifications

  • GCSEs in English and Maths required, plus Level 3 qualification.
  • Experience supporting learners in educational settings and aiding classroom learning.
  • Strong communication, teamwork and IT skills essential; commitment to equality and inclusion.

Responsibilities

  • Provide in-class support for GCSE and Functional Skills English and Maths.
  • Support learners with additional needs and promote inclusive learning environments.
  • Encourage attendance, behaviour and learner progress; monitor progress with tutor guidance.
  • Prepare materials, support small groups or 1:1 sessions, track learner progress.
  • Collaborate with teaching staff, maintain confidentiality and uphold safeguarding standards.

Salary: Between £25,585 and £30,915 per annum (Pro-Rata) DOE and Qualifications

Location: Shuttleworth College – Old Warden

Salary/Benefits: Salary is between £25,585 and £30,915 per annum (Pro-Rata) DOE and Qualifications, People’s Pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses.

Hours/Weeks: 37 hours per week – 35 weeks per year

Contract Type: Permanent – Term / Part Time

About The Role

We are currently seeking a Teaching Assistant (Level 2) in Maths and English to join our English and Maths department at The Bedford College Group.

As a Teaching Assistant (Level 2), you play an important role in the success of our students through:

  • Classroom Support & English/Maths Delivery – Provide effective in‑class support for GCSE and Functional Skills English and Maths, helping learners understand content and engage in lessons.
  • SEND Support & Inclusive Practice – Assist learners with additional needs, including EHCPs, promoting inclusive learning environments and supporting student independence.
  • Learner Engagement, Behaviour & Progress – Encourage positive behaviour, attendance and participation, supporting learners’ academic progress and personal development.
  • Assessment Support & Learning Resources – Assist with preparation of materials, small group or 1:1 support, and monitoring learner progress in line with tutor guidance.
  • Collaboration, Professional Practice & Compliance – Work closely with teaching staff and teams, maintain confidentiality and uphold safeguarding, EDI, health & safety and CPD standards.
About You
  • Qualifications & Core Skills in English and Maths – GCSEs in English and maths with a Level 3 qualification, supported by the ability to effectively support teaching and learning activities.
  • Learning Support & Classroom Assistance – Experience supporting learners in educational settings, providing guidance to enhance understanding, engagement and academic progress.
  • Communication, Teamwork & IT Skills – Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and as part of a team, using basic IT tools to support learning activities.
  • Inclusive Practice & Learner-Centred Approach – Committed to equality, diversity and inclusion, adopting a flexible and supportive approach tailored to individual learner needs.
  • Professional Practice, Flexibility & Development – Professional and adaptable, willing to undertake training and work flexibly to meet learner needs while maintaining safeguarding and DBS requirements.
