The Bedford College Group is seeking an English Lecturer to join the English and Maths department at Shuttleworth College in Old Warden.

You will plan and deliver engaging English lessons across multiple levels, assess progress, and support learners to achieve their qualifications, with safeguarding and inclusion at the core.

Qualifications

• Degree or Level 5 qualification in English.
• Certificate in Education/PGCE (or equivalent).
• GCSE Maths & English (A-C).
• Recent experience teaching GCSE English Language (Pearson specification).
• Strong classroom management and ability to deliver engaging learning experiences.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality English teaching across multiple levels, meeting learner needs.
• Assess and monitor progress, prepare schemes of work, and track student progress.
• Support tutorials, promote vocational opportunities, and maintain inclusive, safe learning environments.
• Contribute to curriculum development, review courses, and ensure quality processes.
• Maintain safeguarding, EDI, and health & safety compliance while pursuing CPD.

Role: Lecturer - English (Qualified)

Location: Shuttleworth College - Old Warden

Salary/Benefits: Salary is between £33,048 and £38,169 + £3000 Market Supplement per annum DOE and Qualifications, plus up to a £3,000 market supplement for suitable candidates, 45 days annual leave plus Bank holidays, Teacher’s pension, Retail and Leisure Discounts, excellent professional and personal development opportunities, accessing college courses.

Hours/Weeks: 37 hours per week - 52 weeks per year

Contract Type: Permanent - Full Time

About The Role

We are currently seeking an English Lecturer to join our English and Maths department at The Bedford College Group.

• Deliver High-Quality English Teaching - Plan and deliver engaging lessons across multiple levels, ensuring individual learner needs are met.
• Assess & Monitor Progress - Prepare schemes of work, assess to awarding body standards, track student progress, and provide timely interventions.
• Enhance Student Experience - Support tutorials, promote vocational opportunities, and maintain inclusive, safe learning environments.
• Contribute to Curriculum & Quality - Develop innovative resources, participate in course reviews, marketing activities, and ensure compliance with quality processes.
• Uphold Professional Standards - Maintain safeguarding, EDI, and health & safety compliance while engaging in continuous professional development.

About You

• Essential Qualifications - Degree or Level 5 qualification in English, Certificate in Education/PGCE (or equivalent), and GCSE Maths & English (A-C).
• Teaching Expertise - Recent experience teaching and assessing GCSE English Language (Pearson specification), strong classroom management, and ability to deliver high-quality learning experiences.
• Knowledge & Professional Skills - Up-to-date subject knowledge, ability to use Microsoft Office confidently, complete administrative tasks accurately, and meet deadlines.
• Interpersonal & Team Skills - Strong communication, organisational and influencing skills, ability to build positive relationships and contribute effectively to team objectives.
• Values & Flexibility - Commitment to safeguarding, EDI, College values (Student Focus, High Performance, Respect, Openness, Honesty), willingness to travel across sites with a driving licence and access to a car being essential, and maintain CPD.
