Job summary

Oakwood School in Walsall is seeking a Teaching Assistant Level 2 for maternity cover to support pupils with complex educational needs. You will work under teachers and senior staff to assist with learning, care, and personal development, ensuring safety and access to activities.

You will help implement IEPs and behaviour plans, promote inclusion, and provide feedback to teachers. The role involves supervising pupils, using ICT, and maintaining a supportive learning environment.

Qualifications

• Effective use of ICT to support learning.
• Ability to use equipment including video and photocopier.
• Understanding of policies and child protection procedures.
• Basic understanding of the national curriculum and learning strategies.
• NVQ Level 2 in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools or equivalent.
• First aid training or willingness to undertake.

Responsibilities

• Support pupils’ learning, care and personal development on instruction guidance.
• Supervise pupils and ensure safety and access to activities.
• Assist with IEPs, Behaviour Plans and personal care programmes.
• Build positive relationships with pupils and staff.
• Support inclusion, independence and positive interactions.
• Provide feedback on progress to teachers.
• Attend to pupils’ personal needs and welfare matters.
• Assist with planning learning activities and use strategies to meet goals.
• Record progress and communicate issues to teachers.
• Promote positive behaviour and manage incidents according to policy.
• Engage with parents and carers as needed.
• Prepare and maintain learning resources and ICT use.
• Contribute to the school ethos and attend training.
