Job summary

Fernways School, part of Kedleston Group, is seeking a Teaching Assistant to support pupils with autism and SEMH needs in an independent specialist setting in Windlesham, Surrey.

Your role will involve implementing strategies, liaising with staff and parents, and contributing to a nurturing, pupil-centred environment where every child can thrive.

Qualifications

• Experience supporting children with autism in educational settings.
• Ability to build positive relationships with children and parents.
• Commitment to safeguarding and student wellbeing.

Responsibilities

• Be prepared to use humour and restorative practice to ensure a child-centred approach.
• Support the transition of new pupils arriving or existing pupils returning to school, providing necessary support to overcome barriers to learning.
• Provide in class support as necessary to meet the needs of the school.
• Liaise with other staff to monitor pupils’ behaviour and wellbeing.
• Build positive relations with parents/carers to encourage family involvement in their child’s progress.
• Communicate with parents/carers about specific support in place for their child.
