Job summary

Randstad Education in the United Kingdom is seeking a proactive Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA) for day-to-day cover or longer-term placements near Cottenham and across Cambridgeshire.

You will lead whole classes, deliver pre‑planned lessons, and support teachers to raise pupil attainment across EYFS, KS1 and KS2, with a DBS check required.

Qualifications

• HLTA status or Level 4 qualification (or equivalent)
• Proven experience independently leading whole classes within a primary school setting (EYFS, KS1, KS2)
• Excellent knowledge of the Primary National Curriculum and primary age‑group development
• Outstanding communication skills, a proactive attitude, and confident classroom management
• A valid Enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or willingness to complete one)

Responsibilities

• Classroom cover: take whole‑class responsibility to cover planned teacher absences and deliver pre‑planned lessons across primary subjects
• Targeted interventions: plan, prepare, and deliver small‑group or 1:1 interventions in literacy, numeracy and phonics
• Collaboration: work with class teachers to assess pupil progress and adapt learning resources
• Learning environment: foster a positive, inclusive classroom with strong behaviour management

• Collaboration: Work closely alongside class teachers to assess pupil progress, provide constructive feedback, and adapt learning resources to suit diverse needs.

• Learning Environment: Foster a positive, inclusive, and productive classroom environment, utilising strong behaviour management skills to keep pupils motivated and focused.

What We Look For:

• HLTA Status (or equivalent Level 4 qualification), or a recognised foundation degree in education. Experienced primary teachers looking for HLTA work are also highly welcomed.

• Proven experience independently leading whole classes within a primary school setting (EYFS, KS1, or KS2).

• Excellent knowledge of the Primary National Curriculum and primary age‑group development.

• Outstanding communication skills, a proactive attitude, and confident classroom management.

• A valid Enhanced DBS check on the Update Service (or a willingness to complete one).
