Job summary

Greenacre School in Barnsley is seeking a Teaching Assistant (Grade 2 or Grade 4) to support pupils with SEND across the school day, under teacher guidance. You will help with reading, visual learning, 1:1 and group work, manage classroom routines and contribute to pupil progress records.

The role is offered as full or part-time, with 33 hours per week full-time during term-time plus inset days. Starting salaries are £19,192 (Grade 2) or £20,436 (Grade 4) with progression and training through

Responsibilities

• Getting the classroom ready for lessons.
• Supporting children in class with reading, visual learning and messy play.
• 1:1 and group support for pupils needing extra help.
• Completing pupils records and plans.
• Personal care as needed.
• Observe and document student progress and provide feedback to the teaching team.
• Collaborate with teachers and staff to develop individual education plans.
• Help manage classroom behaviour to promote positive interactions.

As a Teaching Assistant at our school in Barnsley, you will offer more than classroom support. You will make connections, develop relationships and lead our pupils on the path to a bright future. This will include working under the guidance of a teacher to support the academic and personal development of children throughout the school day. This includes:

• Getting the classroom ready for lessons


• Supporting children in class with reading, visual learning and messy play


• Helping those who need extra support - 1:1 and group work


• Completing pupils record plans


• Personal care


• Observe and document student progress, providing feedback to the teaching team on their development


• Collaborate with teachers and other staff to develop individual education plans for students requiring additional support


• Help manage classroom behaviour by implementing strategies that promote positive interactions among students.

Teaching Assistant (Grade 2)

What you will need:

• GCSE Maths and English or a good level of numeracy and literacy skills


• Experience or interest in working with children/ young people with SEN / SEND needs


• Ability to relate to children and younger people to build positive relationships


• Patience, understanding, a willingness to learn and the drive to help our pupils thrive

Perfect if: you are passionate about helping students with SEND, looking to build classroom confidence, or don't quite meet the criteria for the grade 4 position.

Teaching Assistant (Grade 4)

What you will need:

• GCSE Maths and English or equivalent


• NVQ L3 qualification or proven ability to work at this level


• Relevant experience in a school or similar setting


• Experience or interest in working with children/ young people with SEN / SEND needs


• Ability to relate to children and younger people to build positive relationships


• Patience, understanding, a willingness to learn and the drive to help our pupils thrive

Perfect if: you already have school/SEND experience, are confident in managing special educational needs and hold a L3 Qualification (or working towards this).

SALARY/HOURS

We will consider both full and part time applicants. Please note, part time applicants need to commit to a minimum of 2 days per week, working consecutively.

As a full time Teaching Assistant, you will be working 33 hours per week Mon-Fri term time only + 5 inset days

• Starting salary for a full time Teaching Assistant Grade 2 is £19,192 actual annual salary (FTE £24,796)


• Starting salary for a full time Teaching Assistant Grade 4 is £20,436 actual annual salary (FTE £26,403)
