Job summary

Christ Church Primary School and Nursery is seeking a Level 3 Teaching Assistant to join our caring team in Burton on Trent. You will support learning in the classroom, help with planning, assessment and pupil progress, and provide pastoral support to pupils.

You will work under teachers, supervise short-term cover, assist with reading sessions, and help create an inclusive environment where every child can thrive and reach high standards of behaviour and achievement.

Qualifications

• Passion for working with young children and learning journeys.
• Level 3 qualification in supporting teaching and learning.

Responsibilities

• Support learning in the classroom under teacher guidance and supervise short-term cover.
• Deliver structured support for pupils, including reading sessions.
• Assist with planning, assessment and accurate recording of pupil progress.
• Provide pastoral support and assist with pupils' personal needs, wellbeing.
• Accompany pupils on visits and support breaks and lunchtimes.
• Use ICT to support learning and develop pupils' confidence with technology.
• Encourage resilience, independence and confidence in pupils.
• Contribute to high standards of behaviour and achievement.

About The Role

As a Level 3 Teaching Assistant, you will be a vital part of our team, helping children overcome barriers to learning and thrive both academically and personally. Your role will include:

• Working under the guidance of teachers to support learning in the classroom and, when needed, supervise classes for short-term, pre-planned cover.
• Delivering structured support for pupils, including contributing to Individual Education, Behaviour and Support plans and guided reading sessions.
• Supporting teachers with planning, assessment and accurate recording of pupil progress.
• Providing pastoral support; assist with pupils’ personal needs, first aid and wellbeing practises.
• Accompanying pupils on visits and extracurricular activities and help run out-of-class provision (breaks, lunchtimes) as required.
• Using ICT to support learning and help develop pupils’ confidence with technology.
• Encouraging resilience, independence, and confidence in our pupils
• Contributing to the school’s high standards of behaviour and achievement

About You

• Has a genuine passion for working with young children and supporting their learning journeys
• Is patient, caring, and enthusiastic, with a positive and proactive attitude
• Holds a Level 3 qualification (NVQ or equivalent) in supporting teaching and learning
• Has experience working with children with additional needs, including communication challenges
• Understands the primary curriculum and can adapt support to meet diverse pupil needs
• Works well as part of a team and values collaboration
• Has excellent organisational and interpersonal skills
• Holds high expectations for pupil achievement and behaviour
