Job summary

Branthwaite Academy in Workington is recruiting Teaching Assistants to support pupils with autism and special educational needs. The role is permanent, 35 hours per week, term-time only, with a pro rata salary including a SEN allowance on probation.

The school provides high-quality CPD, coaching and ongoing support to develop specialist expertise. A Level 3 qualification and experience in SEND are desirable for this pivotal role.

Responsibilities

  • To work under the direction of the class teacher (or TA leading the class) to implement planning and assessment and support pupils individually or in small groups.
  • To help pupils overcome barriers to learning, promote inclusion, support IEPs, develop communication, behaviour, independence and social skills.
  • To supervise and guide learning opportunities in non-lesson times.

Due to the continued expansion of our school and growing pupil numbers, we are looking to appoint talented practitioners to join our team. Applications are welcomed from teaching assistants across all sectors, we would particularly welcome applications from secondary teaching Assistants already in SEND settings or those considering a move into special education. Whether you already have extensive SEND experience or are looking for a new professional challenge, we offer high-quality CPD, coaching and ongoing support to support successful candidates to develop specialist expertise and make life changing difference to our young people.

Our schoolis a specialist provision for ASC pupils. We provide education for pupils agedbetween 4 and 19 years who have a primary need and diagnosis of Autism and whomay be suffering social, emotional and behavioural problems in mainstreamEducation. This is an exciting opportunity to join our provision and play a keyrole in the development and learning of our students.

Main Roles and Responsibilities:
  • To work under the direction of the class teacher (or TA leadingthe class in the short term absence of the class teacher), to implementplanning and assessment, working with individual or small groups of pupils inorder to achieve bespoke and tailored learning for pupil progress.
  • To support pupils to overcome barriers to learning, promotingthe inclusion of all pupils by supporting the application of their IEPs,developing their communication skills, supporting them to managetheirbehaviour, developing independence and social skills and to take responsibilityfor monitoring/reporting on the impact of class based and individual pupilinterventions.
  • To provide supervision and guidance and learning opportunitiesin all non-lesson based activities.
Specification
  • Teaching Assistant/Child Care/NVQ/ other relevant qualification(related to education is desirable) at a minimum of Level 3 depending on role.
