Job summary

GSL Education is seeking a motivated Teaching Assistant to join a welcoming Wakefield school. You will work closely with teachers to support pupils, help them engage with learning, and promote wellbeing in an inclusive environment.

The role involves 1:1 and small-group support, assisting with literacy and numeracy, and adapting resources to meet individual needs. Prior TA experience and a recognised TA qualification are desirable.

A welcoming and supportive school in Wakefield is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to join their team. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified Teaching Assistant who is passionate about supporting pupils' learning, development and wellbeing within a positive and inclusive school environment.

As a Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers and support staff to provide effective classroom assistance, helping pupils engage with their learning, develop confidence and make positive progress.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide classroom support to pupils across different year groups.
• Assist teachers with learning activities, lesson preparation and classroom organisation.
• Provide 1:1 and small-group support to pupils who require additional assistance.
• Support literacy, numeracy and targeted learning interventions.
• Assist pupils with SEND, ASD, ADHD and SEMH needs.
• Encourage positive behaviour and promote pupil engagement.
• Support pupils with their social, emotional and academic development.
• Help pupils develop confidence, independence and communication skills.
• Support pupils who may experience behaviours that challenge.
• Adapt learning resources and activities to meet individual pupil needs.
• Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs and other support staff.
• Maintain a safe, inclusive and positive learning environment.

The Ideal Teaching Assistant Will Have

• A recognised Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent.
• Previous experience working within a school or educational setting.
• Experience supporting children with additional learning needs or SEND.
• Confidence providing 1:1 and small-group support.
• A patient, caring and adaptable approach.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
• Experience supporting pupils with ASD, ADHD, SEMH or behaviours that challenge would be advantageous.
• Previous experience as an SEN Teaching Assistant would be beneficial.
• The ability to work effectively as part of a wider school team.
• Team Teach training would be desirable but is not essential.
• An enhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain one.
• A fully checkable employment and reference history.
