Job summary

The Supply Register, in partnership with Alexandra Park Primary School (Pinnacle Trust), is looking for an experienced SEN Teaching Assistant to support a pupil on a 1:1 basis. This full-time role focuses on enabling access to the curriculum, developing confidence and encouraging inclusive participation.

You will work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and support staff to implement individual strategies, monitor progress and maintain a calm, nurturing classroom environment.

Qualifications

• Experience working with children with SEND is advantageous.
• Strong communication with teachers, support staff and parents/carers.
• Caring, patient and empathetic demeanor.
• Flexible and able to adapt approach to individual needs.

Responsibilities

• Provide dedicated 1:1 SEN support to a pupil throughout the school day.
• Adapt and reinforce learning activities to meet individual needs.
• Support the pupil to access the curriculum and participate in class.
• Assist with transitions and develop independence and confidence.
• Promote inclusion and positive relationships with peers.
• Contribute to safeguarding and behavior management as per school policy.
• Work with the class teacher and SENCO to implement strategies and interventions.

The Role

• As a 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with the class teacher, SENCO and wider school team to provide tailored support to a pupil with additional needs.
• Providing dedicated 1:1 support to a pupil throughout the school day.
• Supporting the pupil to access the curriculum and participate fully in classroom activities.
• Adapting and reinforcing learning activities to meet individual needs.
• Supporting communication, social interaction and emotional development.
• Helping the pupil to develop independence, confidence and positive learning behaviours.
• Providing support with transitions between lessons, activities and different areas of the school.
• Working with the class teacher and SENCO to implement individual support strategies and agreed interventions.
• Supporting small-group activities where appropriate.
• Encouraging positive relationships with peers and promoting inclusion within the classroom.
• Maintaining a calm, nurturing and supportive approach when responding to challenging or dysregulated behaviour.
• Contributing to a positive, safe and inclusive learning environment.
• Following school policies and procedures, including safeguarding and behaviour management.

• Using practical resources and visual supports to aid communication and understanding.

• Encouraging independence rather than completing tasks on the pupil's behalf.
• Working alongside the class teacher to ensure the pupil remains engaged and included.
• Supporting the pupil during break and lunchtime where required.
• Helping create a positive classroom environment where every child feels valued and supported.

Previous experience working with children with SEND, autism, ADHD, speech and language needs, social and emotional needs or complex learning needs would be advantageous.
