Job summary

Job description

Job Title: Teaching Assistant

Location: Martock, Somerset

Job Type: Full-time (8:30 AM - 3:30 PM)

Driving Requirement: Yes

Responsibilities Include:
  1. Assisting with the educational and social development of students under the direction and guidance of the classroom teacher and SENCO.
  2. Supporting students with SEMH needs, both in a classroom setting and on a one-to-one basis.
  3. Working with teachers to maintain a safe, respectful and nurturing environment conducive to learning.
  4. Preparing educational materials as directed by the classroom teacher.
  5. Aiding students with their learning and comprehension in various subjects.
  6. Encouraging and supporting students to complete assigned tasks and participate in activities.
  7. Managing classroom behaviour and using strategies to promote positive behaviour.
  8. Facilitating communication between students and staff.
  9. Monitoring and supporting the progress and well-being of students.
  10. Assisting with the planning and implementation of individual education plans for specific students.
  11. Accompanying and supervising students on excursions and school-related activities outside the classroom.
  12. Collaborating with teachers, parents, and other staff members to support student success.
  13. Participating in staff meetings and professional development activities as required.
Requirements:
  1. Experience in working with children, particularly those with SEMH needs.
  2. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
  3. Ability to build rapport with students from diverse backgrounds.
  4. Competency in managing challenging behavior and using de-escalation techniques.
  5. A patient and creative approach to working with children.
  6. Flexibility to adapt to various teaching methods and learning styles.
  7. A driver's license and access to a vehicle due to the location of the job.
  8. Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
  9. Appropriate references.
Preferred Qualifications:
  1. A relevant teaching assistant qualification, or a willingness to work towards one.
  2. First Aid certification.
  3. Experience with educational frameworks and an understanding of the national curriculum.
  4. Experience or qualifications in Special Education Needs.
