Job description

Teaching Assistant

Loughborough

£22,478 - £22,978

Loughborough based independent specialist SEN school is seeking a passionate and enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join their team. The students in the school come from a variety of backgrounds and all have Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH).

In this role, no two days will be the same and no two children are the same either! The children require very special adults who can support them with complex and challenging behaviours.

The students require lots of attention, just the right sort of communication, consistency and flexibility in equal measure, and a non-judgemental approach.

You will need to be resilient, persistent and solution focussed to meet the needs of the pupils and to do so you will need to wear a lot of hats and be prepared to change them at a moment's notice!

You will be responsible for:

  • Supporting teaching and learning
  • Working with children 1:1 or delivering sessions with small groups of students
  • Managing classroom resources
  • Taking children on educational trips and visits
  • Eating your lunch with children who struggle socially
  • Keeping children safe when they are experiencing heightened behaviours with strong behaviour management skills and excellent communication
  • Creating, playing and teaching games to pupils to develop their social skills or further learning
  • Creating amazing displays which support teaching and create an exceptional learning environment
  • Celebrating success
  • Participating in therapeutic training sessions or reflecting on difficult periods

The Teaching Assistant is a highly valued member of their team. They want their TAs to be part of the decision making that drives the school, provides outcomes for children and advocates for every child. They welcome input in developing both the academic curriculum and the opportunities in their extra-curricular offer - bringing your own interests and passions to the table.

To be successful in your application you will have:

  • Good understanding of English and Maths
  • Ideally previous experience as a Teaching Assistant or working within a SEN setting
  • A passion for assisting children with SEN and SEMH needs

In return, you will be offered:

  • The opportunity to develop and grow your career
  • Competitive salary
  • Extensive training and professional qualification opportunities
  • Small class sizes
  • The chance to be part of an expanding, national organisation that recognises skill, effort and potential and grows its own leadership teams
  • Flexible pension
  • Regular therapeutic and supportive supervision
  • Employee benefit service with access to wellbeing services, salary sacrifice schemes
