Job summary

The Hereford Church of England Academy, a year 11–16 secondary school on the edge of Hereford, is seeking a Teaching Assistant to support access to learning, deliver interventions and assist with EHCPs and ESL pupils. You will help prepare resources, support classroom management and work with students aged 11 to 16 to help them succeed.

The post offers 37 hours per week during term time plus inset days, with a six‑month probation and progression from Grade 4 to 6 on the local pay spine.

Qualifications

• Ideal candidate has at least six months' school-based Teaching Assistant experience.
• Good organisational, timekeeping and ICT skills.
• Calm, positive manner; able to support students aged 11–16 to succeed.
• Willingness to assist with EHCPs and students with English as an Additional Language.

Responsibilities

• Support access to learning and deliver interventions under the guidance of teaching staff.
• Assist the teacher in managing pupils and the classroom.
• Prepare and maintain resources and equipment; assist with assessment and recording.

Job Title: Teaching Assistant [permanent following a six-month probationary period]

37 hours per week, 44.85 - 45.86 (depending on length of continuous service) weeks per year

Grade 4 point 4 to 6 £25,185 to £25,989 [FTE] actual salary £21,663 to £22,355 Increment pending

What are we looking for?

Join The Hereford Church of England Academy as a Teaching Assistant. Work under the guidance of the teaching staff and nominated teaching assistants to support access to learning for pupils, deliver interventions and assist the teacher in the management of pupils and the classroom, including support for individual Education Health Care Plans (EHCP’s) and students with English as an Additional Language. This will include the preparation and routine maintenance of resources / equipment, assessment and recording. Work with pupils will be carried out in and out of the classroom.

We are looking for someone who ideally has at least six months work experience working in a school environment as a Teaching Assistant. You will have good organisational, timekeeping and ICT skills. You will be well organised, have a calm and positive manner and enjoy supporting students aged 11 to 16 to succeed.

The post holder will be expected to support the Academy’s values and will contribute to the overall good order within the Academy, including behaviour management and promoting well-being of students.
