Job description

Contract: Fixed Term to 31st August 2027

Teaching load: 0.8, with the other 0.2 as extended PPA and support time

If you want an exciting opportunity to work in a vibrant school that makes a difference to you people lives - we want to hear from you.

What we are looking for:

We are seeking to appoint a classroom teacher with a commitment to supporting students who need additional academic and/or pastoral support to transition successfully and succeed in secondary school.

We are looking for a colleague able to work as a classroom teacher, teaching a small number of mixed ability students in core and some foundation subjects. They would also provide pastoral support, to develop the transferable skills and maturity that the students need to integrate fully into other foundation classes. They will provide first line support to students included in the primary classroom and their families.

The role would be ideal for a primary or middle school teacher who would wish to widen their experience by working within a secondary school environment, whilst making use of their cross curricular teaching skills and pastoral systems. Primary trained ECTs and experienced teachers are welcome to apply. Some teaching in the wider school may be available in due course to support the colleague’s professional development should they wish this. Subject specialism is not important, but a flexible and enthusiastic attitude, along with a desire to work as a team and improve student’s lives, are.

The demands of the role are acknowledged and as such the teaching load is reduced to 20 out of 25 sessions a week, with the remaining 5 sessions being PPA and extended support time.

We require a positive role model who knows that excellent relationships are at the heart of developing positive behaviour in our students; someone who has a passion for improving young peoples’ life chances and uses positive management techniques and strategies, that are consistent with the school’s values and ethos.

Safeguarding and wellbeing of our students underpins everything we do at The Hereford Church of England Academy and the applicant will be expected to support and develop this.

What we offer in exchange:
  • A busy and enjoyable place to work, with modern, welcoming facilities.
  • A competitive salary.
  • Enrolment in the Teachers’ Pension Scheme.
  • Access to the Trust's EAP and Blue Light Card.
  • Use of Academy facilities (including free gym and onsite car parking).
  • The chance to be involved in guiding the life of students aged 11 to 16, on a daily basis, and seeing them flourish.
  • Excellent professional and career development opportunities with an employer that values education and learning.
  • A talented, highly motivated, committed and professional team of colleagues, both within the school and across the trust.
