Teaching Assistant - Secondary SEN School - Bury

Start Date: September

Are you a compassionate, patient, and dedicated individual eager to make a significant impact on the lives of young people with Special Educational Needs (SEN)? We are seeking an enthusiastic Teaching Assistant to join our supportive team at a Secondary SEN school in Bury, ready for the new academic year in September.

About the Role:

As a Teaching Assistant in our secondary SEN school, you will play a crucial role in empowering students with diverse special educational needs to access their education and achieve their full potential. You will work closely with teachers and other professionals, contributing to a positive, inclusive, and stimulating learning environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide tailored one-to-one and small group support to students within the classroom and during activities.

  • Assist the class teacher in preparing resources and delivering engaging lessons.

  • Support students with their academic tasks, helping them to understand instructions and complete work.

  • Foster the social and emotional development of students, promoting positive interactions and self-esteem.

  • Help to maintain a safe, positive, and structured classroom environment conducive to learning.

  • Work collaboratively with teachers, parents, and other professionals to ensure comprehensive student support.

  • Assist with the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs) and positive behaviour management strategies.

  • Monitor and record student progress, providing valuable feedback to the teaching staff.

Requirements:

  • Experience working with children or young people, preferably within a school or educational setting.

  • A patient, caring, and empathetic nature, with a genuine desire to support students with SEN.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, able to build rapport with students, staff, and parents.

  • The ability to work effectively and proactively as part of a team.

  • Resilience and adaptability to respond to varying student needs and situations.

  • A strong understanding of safeguarding and child protection procedures.

Desirable:

  • Previous experience working with secondary-aged students with a range of special educational needs (e.g., Autism, ADHD, Moderate/Severe Learning Difficulties, SEMH).

  • Relevant qualifications (e.g., Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification, childcare qualification).

  • Training in behaviour management techniques (e.g., Team Teach).
