Job summary

The Wenlock School in Dudley, part of Outcomes First Group, is seeking a compassionate Teaching Assistant to support pupils with social, emotional and learning needs. You will work closely with teachers, families and professionals to provide tailored learning, emotional and behavioural support and help pupils overcome barriers to learning.

The role is permanent and term-time only, 37.5 hours a week, with start in September 2026.

Qualifications

  • GCSEs in English and Maths at grade C/4 or above.
  • Experience in a SEND environment is desirable.
  • Patient, resilient and adaptable to pupil needs.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills to work in a multi-disciplinary team.

Responsibilities

  • Champion safeguarding and promote wellbeing and safety for every pupil.
  • Provide personalised learning, emotional and behavioural support.
  • Assist teachers to deliver engaging lessons and positive learning environments.
  • Build partnerships with families and external professionals for pupil support.
  • Plan and deliver targeted interventions to develop confidence and life skills.
  • Foster an inclusive, nurturing environment where pupils feel valued.
  • Assist with school administration and organisational tasks.
  • Engage in professional development and contribute to school life.

Job Title: Teaching Assistant

Location: The Wenlock School, Dudley, West Midlands, DY1 3SB

Hours: 37.5 hours per week | Monday to Friday | Monday 8:15am - 4:30pm, Tuesday - Friday 8:15am - 3:45pm

Salary: £22,160.62 per annum

(not pro rata)

Contract: Permanent | Term Time Only

Start: September 2026

About the Role

We're looking for a compassionate and dedicated Teaching Assistant to join our supportive team in Dudley, helping pupils overcome barriers to learning and achieve their full potential. Working closely with teachers, families and a range of professionals, including Social Workers, Speech and Language Therapists, Educational Psychologists and Early Intervention Teams, you'll provide tailored support to pupils with social, emotional and learning needs. Whether you're building confidence, encouraging communication or celebrating small but significant achievements, you'll play a vital role in helping our pupils thrive both academically and personally.

Key Responsibilities
  • Champion the safety, wellbeing and success of every pupil by promoting a culture of safeguarding and care.
  • Provide personalised learning, emotional and behavioural support that helps pupils thrive both in and beyond the classroom.
  • Work alongside teachers to deliver engaging lessons, create positive learning environments and inspire pupil progress.
  • Build strong partnerships with families and external professionals to ensure every pupil receives the support they need to succeed.
  • Plan and deliver targeted interventions that develop confidence, independence and key life skills.
  • Foster an inclusive, nurturing environment where every pupil feels valued, supported and empowered to achieve their potential.
  • Contribute to the smooth running of the school through effective administration and organisational support.
  • Embrace opportunities for professional development and play an active role in shaping the life and success of the school.
What We’re Looking For
  • GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics at grade C / grade 4 or above
  • Experience in a SEND environment
  • Patient, resilient, and adaptable to pupil needs
  • Knowledge of supporting pupils with communication, behaviour, and learning difficulties
  • Calm, consistent, and compassionate when managing challenging behaviour
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, able to work within a multi-disciplinary team
  • Organised with attention to detail in record-keeping, planning, and follow-up
  • Willingness to engage in continuous professional development
  • Empathetic, trustworthy, and able to build positive relationships with pupils, families, and colleagues
