Job summary

Veritas Education are partnering with a welcoming primary school in Burnley to appoint a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant to support a child in the Reception class.

The role focuses on helping the child integrate into the Reception environment, supporting learning and social development throughout the day, with EYFS knowledge and a calm, nurturing approach.

SEN Teaching Assistant (Reception Class)

Location: Burnley
Hours: Full-Time, Monday to Friday
Start Date: ASAP / September 2026
Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience

Veritas Education are working in partnership with a welcoming primary school in Burnley who are looking to appoint a dedicated and nurturing SEN Teaching Assistant to support a child within their Reception class.

This is a rewarding role focused on helping a young child with additional needs successfully integrate into the Reception environment, supporting both their learning and social development throughout the school day.

The school is looking for someone who is patient, caring and proactive, with previous experience supporting children with Special Educational Needs and a strong understanding of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS).

The Role:
  • Provide 1:1 support for a pupil with additional needs within Reception.
  • Support the child's transition and integration into the classroom environment.
  • Encourage communication, social interaction and independence.
  • Work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement tailored support strategies.
  • Help create a positive, engaging and inclusive learning environment.
  • Support learning through play and child-led activities in line with the EYFS framework.
The Ideal Candidate Will Have:
  • Previous experience working with children with SEN.
  • An Early Years background, either within a nursery, preschool or Reception setting.
  • A calm, nurturing and adaptable approach.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A genuine passion for supporting children to reach their full potential.
  • Relevant Teaching Assistant or Childcare qualifications (desirable but not essential).
