Academics is seeking a compassionate Teaching Assistant for a specialist setting in Milton Keynes to support autistic children with complex needs. The role focuses on 1:1 and small-group support, helping pre-verbal learners develop communication, regulation, and engagement in learning environments.

You will work closely with teachers and therapists to follow care plans, manage sensory needs, and provide personal care when required, in a calm and structured setting.

Qualifications

  • Right to work in the UK; sponsorship not offered.
  • Full-time, Monday to Friday, 8:30am–3:30pm.
  • Experience with autism, sensory needs or communication difficulties preferred.
  • Experience with pre-verbal or non-verbal children advantageous.
  • Willingness to provide personal and intimate care.

Responsibilities

  • Support pre-verbal and non-verbal learners with communication and engagement.

Teaching Assistant - Milton Keynes- Teaching Assistant - Milton Keynes

Are you a compassionate and patient Teaching Assistant looking for a rewarding role in Milton Keynes?

We are currently recruiting for a Teaching Assistant to join a specialist educational setting supporting children with autism and complex additional needs.

This role would suit someone who is passionate about working with autistic children and enjoys creating a calm, structured and supportive environment. You will primarily be supporting pre-verbal students, helping them develop communication, regulate their sensory needs and engage with learning.

Key Details

  • Location: Milton Keynes
  • Pay: 14.20 - 15.00 per hour, depending on experience
  • Hours: Full-time, Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 3:30pm
  • Contract: Temporary/ad-hoc work available, with temp-to-perm opportunities for the right candidate
  • Start: ASAP

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group support to children with autism and additional needs
  • Support pre-verbal and non-verbal learners with communication and engagement
  • Help children manage sensory processing needs and emotional regulation
  • Assist with classroom activities and individual learning programmes
  • Use a calm, patient and consistent approach when supporting children who may display challenging or distressed behaviours
  • Follow individual education, behaviour and care plans
  • Provide personal and intimate care where required
  • Work closely with teachers, therapists and support staff to ensure pupils receive consistent support

Requirements

  • Right to work in the UK - unfortunately, we cannot offer sponsorship
  • Availability Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 3:30pm
  • Experience supporting children or young people with autism, sensory needs or communication difficulties is desirable
  • Experience working with pre-verbal or non-verbal children would be highly beneficial
  • Comfortable providing personal and intimate care
  • A calm, patient and empathetic approach
  • A genuine passion for supporting children with additional needs
