Job summary

Belmont Recruitment is seeking passionate Teaching Assistants to join our Barrow-in-Furness educational team. You will provide general classroom support and/or 1:1 assistance, helping create an inclusive and nurturing learning environment for diverse students.

Qualifications

• Strong understanding of special education principles and experience working with individuals with disabilities or autism.
• Proven ability to work effectively with children across various age groups in educational settings.
• Excellent communication skills to clearly convey instructions and foster positive relationships with students, colleagues, and parents.
• Experience in tutoring or mentoring students to support their academic achievement and personal development.
• Creative writing skills that can be used to develop engaging lesson content or assist students in expressing themselves confidently.
• Ability to adapt teaching methods to meet diverse learning styles and needs while maintaining a lively, motivating classroom atmosphere.
• Demonstrated patience, empathy, and enthusiasm for helping students succeed academically and socially.

Responsibilities

• Assist lead teachers with lesson planning and classroom activities to ensure smooth daily operations.
• Mix of general classroom support and individually (1:1) or in small groups, especially those with disabilities or special needs, to promote understanding and participation.
• Implement tailored instructional strategies for students with autism or other specific learning needs, ensuring an inclusive classroom environment.
• Provide mentorship and encouragement to students, helping build their confidence and social skills through creative writing, tutoring, and mentoring activities.
• Monitor student behaviour, reinforce positive conduct, and address behavioural challenges in collaboration with teachers and support staff.
• Help manage classroom materials, prepare educational resources, and organise learning spaces to optimise student engagement.
• Communicate regularly with teachers, parents, and specialists to track student progress and share observations on individual needs.
