Full Time
Midlothian has 6 secondary schools, 32 primary schools (19 with nurseries), and 2 standalone nursery schools. Our special school, Saltersgate, supports children with various physical, social, emotional, behavioural, and learning difficulties. School sizes vary from around 20 to over 1200 pupils. The area features diverse catchments, from rural to urban, with several new build schools recently constructed or planned.

Pre-Employment Checks for Teaching Positions
Employment is conditional on satisfactory completion of checks, including medical screening, two references (one from your most recent employer), verification of qualifications, and eligibility to work in the UK. Registration with the General Teaching Council Scotland (GTCS) and a PVG check for Regulated Work with Children are also required.
GTCS Registration
Applicants for permanent posts must be registered with GTCS. More info at www.gtcs.org.uk.
Regulated Work with Children
This role is considered Regulated Work with Children under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act, 2007. Applicants barred from working with children are ineligible.
Successful candidates need a PVG Scheme membership, which costs £59, payable via salary deduction over 6 pay periods. Existing employees will have the fee paid by the Council. Requisite disclosures and checks are required before employment.
Applicants must disclose any unspent convictions under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Failure to disclose may result in withdrawal of the offer. Having a criminal record does not automatically disqualify applicants; suitability depends on the circumstances.
