Full Time

Midlothian has 6 secondary schools, 32 primary schools (19 with nurseries), and 2 stand-alone nurseries. Our special school, Saltersgate, supports children with various physical, social, emotional, behavioural, and learning difficulties. The schools vary in size from around 20 to over 1200 pupils and serve diverse catchments, from rural to urban. We have recently built 15 primary and 1 secondary school, with more planned.

Requirements

Pre-Employment Checks

Successful applicants will need to complete checks including medical screening, two references (one from your current employer), qualification verification, and proof of eligibility to work in the UK. Registration with the General Teaching Council Scotland (GTCS) and a PVG check for Regulated Work with Children are mandatory.

GTCS Registration

Regulated Work with Children

This role is classified as Regulated Work with Children under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. Applicants must not be barred from working with children. Successful candidates will need PVG Scheme membership, which involves a fee (£59 for full membership, £18 for updates). The Council will deduct these costs from your salary over several pay periods. Existing employees will have the costs covered by the Council.

Applicants must disclose any unspent convictions under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974. Failure to disclose could lead to withdrawal of an offer. Having a criminal record does not automatically disqualify you; decisions are made based on the nature of the offence and the role.
