Job description

We are currently recruiting for 1 full time Teacher - maternity cover (M3) Candidates must hold a recognised teaching qualification and meet the requirements for qualified teacher status. Working independently and as part of a team, you will support autistic and neurodivergent children and young people to access highly personalised programmes of study in one of the Society's specialist schools. This will include planning and delivering lessons and resources for individuals or small groups of pupils both in school and outside the classroom, including community visits.

Are you passionate about learning? Do you strive for the best in everything you do, and think you could make a positive difference to lives of autistic and/or neurodivergent individuals? If this sounds like you, and you're seeking a rewarding job role, we are currently recruiting for an experienced Teacher to join our education staff team. Working independently and as part of a team, you will support children and young people to access highly personalised programmes of study, with the aim of helping them to achieve their individual aspirations. You will need to be enthusiastic, able to use your own initiative, have a drive and resilience for what is often a demanding role; and you must be people-centred with good communication and interpersonal skills, enabling you to build positive relationships with both staff and pupils. While you must be qualified and have teaching experience, it is not essential for candidates to have previously worked with autistic individuals - all we ask is that you are hard-working, willing to learn and committed to promoting the positive development of children and young people.

For more than 40 years, we've led the way in providing care and education for autistic and/or neurodivergent children, young people and adults across the North East of England. We have more than 1,200 staff working in our schools, college, short breaks, day services, residential care, supported living, employment services and family support. We are passionate about retaining talent and many of our current managers have worked their way up through the ranks. The North East Autism Society is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of our children, young people and adults, and operates a safer recruitment process. This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check, and filtering and monitoring process and it is an offence to apply if you are barred from engaging in regulated activity relevant to children and/or vulnerable adults. As a Disability Confident Employer we guarantee to interview all applicants with a disability who meet the minimum criteria for this job vacancy. We are proud to be an equal opportunities employer (EOE) here at NEAS. We believe everyone has the right to be themselves. We not only celebrate diversity but recognise the value and opportunity it brings. We are committed to creating a workplace where all differences are valued, and we make sure that all colleagues are given the same opportunities.
