Job summary

King Alfred’s Academy in Wantage is seeking a Subject Lead for Design & Technology to drive the strategic direction and deliver a coherent, engaging curriculum for Years 10-11 and A‑Level groups.

You will lead the D&T team, uphold high standards of assessment, and work with staff, students, parents, and external partners to ensure continuous improvement and excellence in teaching and learning.

Responsibilities

• Provide leadership for D&T curriculum and assessment across Key Stages.
• Drive data-driven improvement plans and support professional development of the D&T team.

About this Role:

DT is a popular subject in school with multiple option groups in Years 10 and 11 and an A-Level product Design group.

The Subject Lead D&T role at King Alfreds plays a vital role in driving the strategic direction, quality, and impact of their subject area, providing clear leadership that inspires excellence in teaching, learning, and curriculum development. The role exists to cultivate a strong, collaborative team culture; ensure a coherent, engaging, and well sequenced curriculum; and uphold the highest standards of assessment, organisation, and professional practice. By combining thoughtful self-evaluation, effective data-driven action planning, and supportive line management, the Subject Lead ensures continual improvement and a shared commitment to student success. As a key member of the Academy’s wider leadership structure, the postholder also contributes to whole school priorities, fosters positive relationships with students, staff, parents, and external partners, and models the professionalism and high expectations that underpin King Alfred’s Academy’s vision and values.

We are advertising three vacancies within our Creative Arts Faculty, with the intention of appointing one successful candidate to a role within the faculty.
