Job description

This is an opportunity for a well-qualified individual to make a positive contribution to our Humanities Faculty. You will work alongside a hardworking team of colleagues who are incredibly welcoming, supportive and committed to delivering a curriculum which will improve the lives of the community we serve.

The academy offers a bespoke CPD and coaching programme, which is evidence informed and grounded in the latest research.

The successful candidate will:

  • Be dedicated to the local community and motivated to work with all stakeholders to enrich the lives of our students.
  • Accept their professional obligation to continually improve their practice.
  • Be hard-working, will welcome feedback and have a positive mind-set.
  • A team player who recognises the importance of collaboration.
  • Work tirelessly to instil the highest standards of behaviour and virtues in our students.

The Humanities Faculty at the Sutton Academy consists of knowledgeable, passionate and enthusiastic teachers who strive to give students a thought provoking and enjoyable experience in every lesson. As a new member of staff, you will be fully supported by an experienced group of colleagues who share a vision of excellent teaching and learning founded upon collaborative planning and assessment. We work together to ensure that there is consistency across the faculty, and to support each other to continually improve and achieve the best outcomes for our students.

The Humanities faculty currently consists of 10 teachers, with curriculum leaders in place for Geography, History and RE. Staff benefit from a positive, collaborative working environment with excellent classroom facilities. We are looking for an enthusiastic teacher who will contribute to all aspects of the faculty and will inspire and engage our students within our innovative curriculum. This is an excellent opportunity for the successful candidate to be a part of thriving, rapidly developing faculty and take of advantage of the excellent CPD on offer within the Academy.

Humanities remain as popular and thriving area of the curriculum at the academy, with classes across all key stages. At Key Stage 3, students study a diverse and engaging range of topics across Geography and History, developing their understanding of the physical and human world, significant historical events and the connections between people, places and societies. At Key Stage 4, students follow the AQA GCSE specifications for both Geography and History, while Geography students at Key Stage 5 follow the Edexcel A-Level specification. This is an exciting time for the Humanities department as we continue to develop and enrich our curriculum, alongside expanding the range of extracurricular opportunities and educational visits available to our students, including upcoming trips to Iceland in summer 2027 and Krakow in December 2027.

The successful candidate will be a hardworking teacher who is fully committed to being the best practitioner they can be so they can make a difference to the students at The Sutton Academy.

This post is subject to satisfactory Disclosure & Barring Service (DBS) Enhanced Disclosure Certificate. The Sutton Academy is committed to equal opportunities.
