At USP College, we are looking for a passionate Teacher of History to deliver high-quality, creative, and engaging lessons while successfully supporting and inspiring our students. As a prospective member of the Humanities team, you should be a subject specialist who will inspire and motivate your students to exceed their aspirations. You will be able to build positive relationships with young people and support them to achieve their long-term career goals. You will use your expertise and emotional intelligence to unlock barriers to your students’ progress and provide the tools, support, and challenge they need to move forward. As a college promoting innovation, we are keen to develop virtual learning for our learners and would welcome candidates interested in developing this method of teaching and learning.

Duties & Responsibilities

  1. Promote the College's strategy of Career-Focused Learning, prioritising the learner experience and fostering relationships with the community and local/regional employers.
  2. Contribute to curriculum development discussions and adhere to College policies.
  3. Plan lessons according to student needs and curriculum requirements.
  4. Regularly assign and assess student work in accordance with College policies.
  5. Monitor and report student progress through established procedures.
  6. Collect and distribute resources among students as necessary.
  7. Coordinate with colleagues regarding student group organisation.
  8. Attend College events such as parents' consultation evenings and open days.
  9. Prepare materials and participate in Student recruitment events, including interviewing.
  10. Assist in the induction process for new students.
  11. Provide cover for absent colleagues and fulfil contractual obligations.
  12. Engage positively in the professional appraisal process.
  13. Stay updated on subject and curriculum developments and report on attended courses.
  14. Participate in recording student achievement in accordance with College policy.
  15. Ensure students are aware of emergency procedures and safety measures.
  16. Provide clear instructions and warnings as needed to maintain a conducive learning environment.
  17. Maintain accurate and up-to-date information.
  18. Deal with challenging situations or individuals professionally and in line with policies and legislation.
  19. Manage and prioritise actions related to learner issues and concerns.
  20. Offer guidance and advice within established procedures, policies, and legislation.
  21. Always adhere to College values and behaviours.
  22. Ensure safeguarding principles, including PREVENT, are embedded into curriculum and staffing practices.
  23. Fulfil supplementary duties as required, including evening or weekend responsibilities.
  24. Participate in staff Continuing Professional Development (CPD) days for industry experience.
  25. Engage in Student CPD days to support student development initiatives.

Job Requirements:

  • Degree in the relevant subject or equivalent
  • Expertise in the chosen subject area with knowledge of additional enrichment activities.

The right candidate will have:

  • Capability of handling multiple functions involving students, resourcing, and college events.
  • Ability to relate well to staff and students and judge the appropriate support and pressure to maximise achievement through guidance and policy.
  • Ability to stay updated on curriculum developments and advise on future curriculum directions and delivery methods.
  • Creativity and lateral thinking to promote campus growth and enhance current features.
  • Skill in resolving student conflicts and handling criticism.
