Job description

Geography is a thriving and increasingly popular subject within our Academy, and this is an exciting opportunity for an enthusiastic, inspirational and committed teacher to join our Geography department.

We are looking for a passionate geographer who can inspire curiosity, challenge students and encourage them to explore and understand the rapidly changing world around them. The successful candidate will enjoy working collaboratively as part of our dynamic and forward-thinking Humanities team, sharing ideas and contributing to engaging learning experiences for students of all abilities.

Our Geography department is committed to providing a rich, relevant and ambitious curriculum, complemented by high-quality fieldwork and opportunities for learning beyond the classroom. We are therefore keen to appoint someone who shares our commitment to these areas and understands the vital role Geography plays in helping young people make sense of the social, environmental and global challenges of the 21st century.

This is brought to life through a wide range of activities including:

  • Museum Learning Team - provide ideas and resources to support lesson delivery. For example, we don’t just learn about the weather in our Geography lessons, we go outside to experience it!
  • Off-site trips - this year students had the opportunity to visit Bournemouth and Canary Wharf, with A’ level students developing their own knowledge and skills during a residential on the South Coast.
  • Super Curricular Clubs - last term students chose ‘Prisoners of Geography’ as a focus for discussion, exploration and debate to take the subject further.
  • Local university lecture and seminar attendance in response to an increasing interest in continuing with Geography beyond school.

Beyond the department, here is a flavor of what life is like at The Langley Academy:

  • Pupils demonstrate positive attitudes to learning in lessons and achieve well in many subjects. Students report that it is easy to be yourself within this inclusive culture with high levels of respect for diversity.’ Ofsted, 2023
  • Strong, supportive leadership team - mentoring and 1-1 coaching from leaders across the Trust
  • Part of the Arbib Education Trust providing access to unique resources and pioneering museum learning, including on-site museum exhibitions

What we offer:

  • Work-life balance- innovative approach to providing flexibility around how you work, as well as social activities, early finish Fridays and a Trust Day offered in term time
  • Enhanced funding for personal development - to support our learning culture with mentoring and 1:1 coaching
  • Staff Discounts- including staff discounts from Vivup Benefits and access to private healthcare
  • Healthy body and mind- free on-site gym, cycle to work tax free scheme, staff badminton sessions on Fridays, free annual flu jab, professional counselling, and wellbeing resources
  • A convenient location served by excellent transport links, free on-site parking facilities and green spaces

The Langley Academy is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. All appointments are subject to an enhanced DBS check. The Trust reserves the right to appoint ahead of the deadline.
