Job summary

Birmingham City Council is recruiting a Teacher of the Deaf to join the Hearing Support Team. The role involves specialist assessment, teaching and support for children and young people with hearing impairment from birth to 25, in homes, nurseries, schools and colleges across Birmingham.

Applicants must have Qualified Teacher Status; you may be undertaking the mandatory qualification. This permanent post is for 32.5 hours per week, with travel across the city and collaborative work with families

Qualifications

• Must hold Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) to apply.
• Experience teaching children and young people who are deaf or hearing impaired is desirable.
• Applicants may be undertaking the mandatory qualification for the role.

Do you have recent and successful experience of teaching children and young people who are deaf or hearing impaired?

Are you passionate about promoting inclusion and improving outcomes for children and young people with sensory needs?

We are seeking an enthusiastic, committed, and highly motivated Teacher of the Deaf to join our Hearing Support Team. You will provide specialist assessment, teaching, and support for children and young people (CYP) with hearing impairment from birth to 25 years, working in partnership with families, schools, and other professionals to raise achievement and promote inclusion.

This position will involve working in family homes, nurseries, mainstream schools, special schools and FE colleges and travelling across the city of Birmingham.

Candidates for this post must hold qualified teacher status.

We will consider applications from Qualified Teachers of the Deaf who hold the mandatory qualification, as well as from those who are currently undertaking the mandatory qualification, or those qualified teachers who have experience teaching deaf CYP who would be willing to undertake the mandatory training. We would welcome applications from those with a key interest in audiology.
