Job summary

Qualifications

• Strong literacy and numeracy skills are essential for this teaching role.
• Experience working with young people is highly valued, especially those with Special Educational Needs (SEN) or Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) challenges.
• The ability to teach up to KS3 or KS4 level is required.

Responsibilities

• Read the background history of a new student and note their needs.
• Attend an initial meeting to engage with the student.
• Write a risk assessment reflecting the student's history.
• Prepare detailed lesson plans tailored to each class' needs.
• Discuss educational plans with the Curriculum & Pathways Officer.

Duties

• Read the supplied background history of a newly assigned student taking particular note of their needs.
• Onsite this will include all the other students at the centre.
• Attend an initial meeting and attempt to engage with the student making them feel comfortable in your presence.
• Write a risk assessment for the student reflecting their history and what you have learnt from them at the initial meeting.
• Visit any spaces where the education is due to take place and consider those environments within the risk assessment.
• Discuss with the Curriculum & Pathways Officer or Head of Centre the Individual Education Plan (IEP) and ensure you understand what curriculum you should be studying with the student.
• Prepare detailed, interesting and relevant lesson plans and schemes of work for the agreed curriculums.
• Tailor these to meet each student or class’ needs. These need to be available if requested.
• Enhanced DBS Certificate and Overseas Police Clearances (if applicable).
• Two professional reference checks. Ability to teach up to KS3 or KS4 level, with support.
• Strong literacy and numeracy skills.
• Experience working with young people, ideally with SEN or SEMH.
