Job summary

Charles Darwin Primary School in Norwich is seeking a committed classroom teacher to join our KS1/KS2 team on a fixed-term contract.

This part-time role is 0.4 FTE (13 hours across Monday and Tuesday), starting November 2026, with opportunities for professional development while contributing to school-wide planning and safeguarding.

Qualifications

  • An appropriate degree and other qualifications required for the award of QTS.
  • Qualified Teacher Status (trainees on track to achieve QTS).
  • Knowledge of Equal Opportunities, Health & Safety, SEND and Child Protection.

Responsibilities

  • Teach students according to their individual educational needs and plan engaging lessons.
  • Assess, record, track, and report on pupil progress and attendance.
  • Use ICT, literacy and numeracy to provide high-quality learning.
  • Maintain discipline and promote standards of work and homework.
  • Contribute to curriculum development and whole-school planning.
  • Collaborate with phase teams and engage in professional development.
  • Communicate with parents and external agencies, including open evenings.

Salary: Qualified Teachers Pay Scales: Main Pay Scale (MPS) to Upper Pay Scale (UPS)

Fixed Term: until 31st August 2027

Part Time: 13 hours per week over 2 days (Monday, Tuesday) (0.4 FTE)

Start Date: November 2026

Charles Darwin Primary is seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, committed, and ambitious classroom teacher. We welcome applications from candidates with any relevant experience in KS1 or KS2. Applications from Early Careers Teachers are also welcomed.

The successful candidate will have a real interest in their own professional development and being part of a school that is ambitious for its students and community. What You’ll Be Doing
  • Teach students according to their individual educational needs and prepare engaging lesson plans.
  • Assess, record, track, and report on student progress, development, attainment, and attendance.
  • Use a variety of teaching methods and resources, including ICT, literacy, and numeracy, to provide a high-quality learning experience.
  • Maintain discipline, encourage good behaviour, attendance, punctuality, and standards of work and homework.
  • Plan and contribute to curriculum development, Schemes of Work, and whole-school policies.
  • Work collaboratively as part of a phase team and contribute to whole-school planning activities.
  • Engage actively in professional development, performance management, and the Staff Development programme.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, carers, guardians, and external agencies, including participation in open evenings and parents’ evenings.
  • Promote student well-being, participation in school life, and support their personal development.
  • Support the Primary’s ethos, mission, corporate policies, and health and safety procedures, playing a full role in the school community.
About You

The successful candidate will have strong communication skills, empathy, patience, and creativity in teaching. You will also be adaptable and passionate about your students' success. You will act as a positive role model, foster a supportive learning environment, and be committed to your own continuous learning and professional development.

Essential:
  • An appropriate degree and other qualifications required for the award of QTS.
  • Qualified Teacher Status (trainees should be on track to achieve QTS before taking up the post).
  • Knowledge of the statutory requirements concerning Equal Opportunities, Health & Safety, SEND and Child Protection.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and build positive relationships with students, parents, colleagues, and the wider community.
  • Experience of teaching the relevant phase in a primary school.
  • Knowledge of effective teaching and learning strategies, including the ability to provide for individual student needs.
  • Experience of the monitoring, assessment, recording and reporting of pupils’ progress.
Desirable:
  • Master’s Degree or other advanced qualifications.
  • Experience teaching a knowledge-rich curriculum.
  • Experience teaching across the whole primary age range and working in partnership with parents.
  • ReadWriteInc training or experience.
  • Advanced qualifications or experience in behaviour management, pedagogy, EAL, or SEND.
