Job description

Stoke-on-Trent £90,000-£150,000 Negotiable Package

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Tax Partner, Associate Partner or ambitious Tax Director to take on a senior leadership position within an established accountancy and business advisory firm in Stoke-on-Trent.

This is an excellent opportunity for a commercially minded tax professional who is looking for greater autonomy, influence and the ability to make a genuine impact on the direction and growth of a tax department.

The position involves leading and developing an experienced tax team, advising a broad range of clients on complex tax matters and playing a key role in strengthening the firm's presence across Stoke-on-Trent and the surrounding region.

Importantly, this is not simply a position focused on managing an existing portfolio. The successful individual will have considerable freedom to develop their own ideas, build relationships, identify new opportunities and help shape the future direction of the tax offering.

The firm is open-minded regarding the precise technical background of the successful candidate and would welcome applications from experienced tax advisory professionals with strong leadership skills and commercial awareness.

A highly competitive financial package will be tailored to the experience and aspirations of the right individual.

Duties and responsibilities
  • Lead, manage and develop an established tax team, providing direction, mentoring and technical support.
  • Take responsibility for the delivery of high-quality tax advisory services to a varied portfolio of clients.
  • Provide commercially focused advice on complex tax matters, working closely with business owners, senior management teams and other professional advisers.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with existing clients, acting as a trusted adviser on their tax affairs and wider business objectives.
  • Identify opportunities for new business, developing relationships with prospective clients and professional contacts across the region.
  • Play a key role in shaping and implementing the future strategy of the tax department.
  • Work collaboratively with Partners and colleagues across other service lines to identify opportunities and provide joined-up advice.
  • Oversee complex advisory assignments, ensuring technical quality, commercial viability and excellent client service.
  • Support the development and progression of senior tax professionals within the team.
  • Represent the firm within the local business community, strengthening its reputation and regional market presence.
  • Contribute to the wider leadership and commercial development of the practice.
Experience and qualifications
  • Significant experience within tax advisory, ideally developed within an accountancy practice or professional services environment.
  • CTA, ACA, ACCA or equivalent professional qualification, although relevant experience and commercial achievements will be equally important.
  • Strong technical knowledge within one or more areas of UK taxation, with the ability to provide commercially focused advice.
  • Experience managing and developing client relationships, including advising business owners and senior stakeholders.
  • Proven leadership skills, with experience managing, mentoring or developing tax professionals.
  • Commercial awareness and an interest in business development, networking and building long-term professional relationships.
  • Confidence managing complex advisory assignments and working collaboratively with other specialists.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with clients and colleagues at all levels.
  • An entrepreneurial mindset, with the ambition to influence the direction and growth of a tax department.

Applications are welcomed from existing Tax Partners and Associate Partners, alongside experienced Tax Directors who are ready to take the next step in their careers.

Benefits
  • Highly competitive salary, indicatively £90,000-£150,000, negotiable depending on experience.
  • Bespoke financial package tailored to the successful individual's background and aspirations.
  • Opportunity to take on a significant leadership position within an established accountancy practice.
  • Considerable autonomy to influence departmental strategy and business development.
  • Responsibility for leading and developing an experienced tax team.
  • Access to an established client base and wider specialist resources.
  • Opportunity to build your own professional network and develop new client relationships.
  • Exposure to a broad range of complex and commercially interesting tax advisory assignments.
  • Genuine scope to influence the long-term growth and success of the regional tax offering.
  • Long-term career opportunities within a well-established professional services business.
Company culture

This opportunity is with a highly regarded accountancy and business advisory firm that combines an established client base with the resources, expertise and infrastructure to deliver complex tax advice.

The firm places considerable importance on developing long-term client relationships, delivering commercially focused advice and creating an environment where experienced professionals are trusted to make decisions and take ownership of their responsibilities.

The successful individual will join an established leadership team and have the opportunity to make a genuine contribution to the continued growth of the tax department.

Rather than operating within a rigid structure, there is considerable scope to introduce new ideas, develop existing services and build on relationships across the local business community.

This would particularly suit someone who enjoys the technical and commercial aspects of tax advisory but is also motivated by developing people, winning work and influencing the direction of a business.

For the right individual, this represents an opportunity to take on a high-profile leadership position with genuine autonomy, a competitive financial package and excellent long-term prospects.
