Tax Manager

A fantastic opportunity has arisen within a growing tax team for a Tax Manager to join their team in Northampton in a true mixed tax role spanning compliance and advisory work.
This role is an ideal opportunity for a hands-on manager who enjoys variety, client contact, and problem-solving, with clear scope to develop advisory exposure and progress within the team.
Unlike a traditional role, you will manage a diverse client portfolio, lead on tax compliance delivery, and support-and increasingly own-advisory projects across a broad range of tax matters.
The practice works predominantly with owner-managed businesses, HNWIs, partnerships, trusts, and corporates, providing a varied client base and excellent opportunity to deliver bespoke support and advice to ambitious business owners.
Tax Manager Job Overview
- Manage a diverse client portfolio across a range of client types (e.g., owner-managed businesses, HNWIs, partnerships, trusts, corporates).
- Review and oversee high-quality delivery of tax returns and computations, ensuring technical accuracy and deadlines are met.
- Identify risk areas, improve processes, and ensure consistent standards across the portfolio.
- Support and deliver advisory assignments, such as planning opportunities, restructuring support, transactions support, succession/wealth planning considerations, international/UK issues, and HMRC correspondence/enquiries.
- Spot opportunities in the client base and proactively raise them with Partners and Directors.
- Translate complex tax information into clear, practical advice that clients understand.
- Coach and support junior team members, reviewing their work and developing capability across the team.
- Contribute to a collaborative culture and help strengthen technical and service delivery standards.
Tax Manager Job Requirements
- Proven experience at Manager level (minimum) within an accountancy practice, with a track record across mixed tax compliance and advisory.
- Hold a relevant qualification such as CTA, ACA, ACCA, ATT, or be qualified by experience.
- Strong client-handling skills and the confidence to manage deadlines and competing priorities.
- Technically curious and commercially minded with an enjoyment for advising alongside filing.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly.
- A solution-focused attitude with a desire to continuously develop technical capability and client service standards.
- Must be based in the UK with existing rights to work without requirement for sponsorship.
