Job summary

Forvis Mazars in the UK is seeking an Assistant Manager in Tax Dispute Resolution to advise clients across a varied portfolio of tax disputes and HMRC enquiries. You will work as part of a collaborative team, supporting cases from initial review through to resolution.

The role requires strong technical and analytical tax knowledge, excellent written and verbal communication, and the ability to manage multiple assignments, deadlines, and client relationships while coaching junior colleagues.

Qualifications

• Relevant experience in tax, tax investigations or dispute resolution, gained within professional services, HMRC or a similar environment.
• A relevant professional qualification, or progress towards one, such as CTA, ACA, ACCA or equivalent.
• Strong technical and analytical skills, with the ability to understand complex tax issues and reach well-reasoned conclusions.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical matters clearly.
• Strong organisation and project-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Working on a portfolio of tax dispute and enquiry matters, supporting cases from initial review through to resolution.
• Reviewing client information, identifying key technical issues and carrying out detailed tax research.
• Preparing correspondence, reports and other documentation to communicate complex tax matters clearly and effectively.
• Liaising with clients, HMRC and colleagues, building trusted relationships and providing practical, commercially focused advice.
• Supporting senior colleagues on complex or higher-risk disputes, including developing case strategies and gathering supporting evidence.
• Monitoring relevant changes in tax legislation and HMRC practice and considering their implications for clients.
• Managing deadlines, budgets and competing priorities while maintaining high standards of quality and client service.
• Supporting and coaching junior colleagues and contributing to their development.
• Working collaboratively with specialists across the wider Tax practice to provide clients with joined-up advice.
