Job summary

Forvis Mazars in the UK is seeking an Assistant Manager within Tax Dispute Resolution to join a collaborative team advising clients across a varied portfolio of tax disputes and HMRC enquiries.

You will work with individuals, businesses and other stakeholders, reviewing information, conducting tax research, and communicating complex matters clearly to deliver practical, commercially focused advice.

Qualifications

• Experience in tax investigations or dispute resolution within professional services or HMRC.
• Qualified or progressing towards CTA, ACA or ACCA or equivalent.
• Strong written and verbal communication; ability to explain complex tax matters clearly.
• Excellent organisation and project-management skills with multiple deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Work on a portfolio of tax dispute and HMRC enquiry matters from initial review through resolution.
• Review client information, identify technical issues and conduct detailed tax research.
• Prepare correspondence, reports and documentation to communicate complex tax matters clearly.
• Liaise with clients, HMRC and colleagues to provide practical, commercially focused advice.
• Support senior colleagues on complex disputes, developing case strategies and gathering evidence.
• Monitor changes in tax legislation and HMRC practice and advise accordingly.
• Manage deadlines, budgets and priorities while maintaining high quality and service.
• Coach junior colleagues and contribute to their development.
• Collaborate with specialists across the wider Tax practice for joined-up advice.

About the team

Our Tax Dispute Resolution team supports clients in managing and resolving complex tax disputes and enquiries. Working with individuals, businesses and other stakeholders, the team helps clients navigate interactions with HMRC, combining strong technical tax knowledge with commercial judgement and a practical approach to resolving disputes.

About the role

As an Assistant Manager within Tax Dispute Resolution, you’ll work as part of a collaborative team advising clients across a varied portfolio of tax disputes and HMRC enquiries

Duties will include:-

• Working on a portfolio of tax dispute and enquiry matters, supporting cases from initial review through to resolution.
• Reviewing client information, identifying key technical issues and carrying out detailed tax research.
• Preparing correspondence, reports and other documentation to communicate complex tax matters clearly and effectively.
• Liaising with clients, HMRC and colleagues, building trusted relationships and providing practical, commercially focused advice.
• Supporting senior colleagues on complex or higher-risk disputes, including developing case strategies and gathering supporting evidence.
• Monitoring relevant changes in tax legislation and HMRC practice and considering their implications for clients.
• Managing deadlines, budgets and competing priorities while maintaining high standards of quality and client service.
• Supporting and coaching junior colleagues and contributing to their development.
• Working collaboratively with specialists across the wider Tax practice to provide clients with joined-up advice.

What we are looking for

• Relevant experience in tax, tax investigations or dispute resolution, gained within professional services, HMRC or a similar environment.
• A relevant professional qualification, or progress towards one, such as CTA, ACA, ACCA or equivalent.
• Strong technical and analytical skills, with the ability to understand complex tax issues and reach well-reasoned conclusions.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to explain technical matters clearly.
• Strong organisation and project-management skills, with the ability to manage multiple assignments and deadlines.
• A collaborative approach and confidence building relationships with clients and colleagues.
• Commercial awareness, curiosity and sound professional judgement.
