Our aim is to create a more modern assessment delivery system that sets us up for the future, supports our Senior Associates better in their role by building associate capacity across the system, further supports our customers, and delivers the best outcomes for learners.

As part of a programme of modernisation, we are updating our senior associate roles and responsibilities across our qualifications.

Purpose

The Content Author is responsible for producing error-free, factually accurate assessments that align with the subject specification.

When carrying out your role, please be mindful that you represent Pearson and should always maintain your professional integrity. Therefore, you should:

  • Act at all times in a way which will not bring Pearson, its employees, and its representatives into disrepute.
  • Read all Pearson policies and guidance prior to undertaking contracted activities.
  • Respect the confidentiality of centres and learners.
  • Attend any meetings or training sessions relevant to your role, as requested by Pearson.
  • Adhere to deadlines given by Pearson and ensure that all work is carried out to the best of your ability.
  • Promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in a professional manner when carrying out services on behalf of Pearson.
  • Have personal IT equipment capable of running Pearson software, relevant malware, appropriate virus protection, a suitable internet connection, and a secure personal email account.
  • Communicate with Pearson and its centres in a timely manner regarding responsibilities.
  • Raise concerns if you suspect or are made aware of malpractice, maladministration, or safeguarding issues.

Role Specific Services and Expectations

In addition to Pearson’s core expectations, role-specific services include:

  • Ensuring assessment materials comply with policies, support accessibility, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Producing high-quality assessment materials that cover the assessment criteria.
  • Ensuring materials are appropriate to the ability range and facilitate good discrimination and differentiation.
  • Advising on subject-specific matters and providing feedback during production.
  • Adhering to production schedules and keeping Pearson informed of your availability.
  • Producing assessment questions that provide balanced content and assessment criteria.
  • Ensuring questions are clear, fit for purpose, and error-free.
  • Providing accurate sources and obtaining copyright permissions where necessary.
  • Using reputable sources for graphics, photographs, diagrams, or images.
  • Ensuring mark schemes are appropriate and correct.
  • Complying with specification demands regarding duration, questions, and rubric clarity.
  • Reviewing, reporting, and marking comments, and producing revised materials as needed.
  • Providing feedback on drafts and attending sign-off meetings.
  • Supporting and updating materials throughout the production process.
  • Signing off final assessment materials.
  • Supporting modified paper amendments as requested.

Experience and Qualifications required:

Experience:

  • In-depth knowledge of the specific content area, assessments, and curriculum development.
  • Ability to provide and coordinate training.
  • Experience in leading quality assurance activities.

Qualifications:

  • Depending on the qualification, contact Pearson if requirements are unclear.
  • For Vocational Qualifications (e.g., BTEC/FS): A minimum of one full academic year of relevant teaching experience within the last 8 years and/or extensive knowledge of Pearson assessments and standards within the last 5 years.
  • A UK recognised teaching qualification.
